ZX Alarm

Why is it when I service my '97 TD and have the doors and bonnet open for an hour or so the alarm stops funtioning,and cannot be re-armed.
I have now found if I disconnect the battery for ten minutes or so and then reconnect it, as soon as I shut the bonnet the alarm goes off and I can disarm and re-arm as normal.
Has anyone else had this problem?

It's not a fail safe for when being serviced is it?

Could be,but no mention of it in the handbook.An earlier thead on alarms mentioned a rechargable battery in the module.I wondered if this could be starting to fail,if it has one.
