There is no fault codes regarding lack of fuel pressure, or crank sync problem. instead of B1606 81 Present Battery state of charge configuration fault, B1715 64 Intermittent Inconsistency between vehicle locking status and locking status of the right front door lock (battery), U1F00 Fault event not stored in the faults log, the BSI has not detected the occurrence of error, which suggest problem with battery being installed without proper procedure

It stopped when running - this is most likely a mechanical failure, the battery won't stop it like that. The battery was subsequently replaced (in a mis guided attempt to fix it) and is probably the source of the codes. There was an ECU fault at one time that might have pointed the finger at the original failure that seems to have been lost. Back to basics... it needs to see rotation, cam synch, and fuel pressure before it will start injection, so those need to be checked in live data. I would also look in the rocker cover, perhaps with a borescope, whilst it is being cranked to see if both the cams are going round. Failure of the cam chain in the head is very common on this engine.

.... Or could it have been some of the 38 other faults that were also in the BSI? :-D

Yeah I agree. But first ting is to check if battery is installed in the proper way (been changed) no fault codes form bsi (they could stop a starting process) and then try to start the engine and see what will pop out. On video there is no strange sounds from the engine. Just don't wanna start. I had a similar situation same sound - immo kicks in

Did you solve it?
To me it sounds like it sucked air into the fuel system: it's cranking, it kind of starts and then... no fuel. When a Diesel runs out of fuel, it's not just adding fuel again, you need priming. Read the Owners Manual.
