Well that's definately off unless you're living in northern Alaska - Fair to say that sensor is toast.
Try getting live data with the MAP unplugged, just to see if IAT changes.
If it does that rules out wiring I'd dare say, and it should be just a matter of replacing the sensor itself.

When it comes to things like MAP/MAF/Crankshaft/what-have-you sensors it's rarely worth it going the cheap route :)

-40 is the usual open circuit figure, could be a wiring fault, try shorting the pins out and see if it goes to some high value.

Yeh i have ordered a new sensor this afternoon simply because I was convinced the new sensor was a fake. The new sensor is in now and giving that -40 reading.

Fumb question but how do I short the circuit. And what sort of figure should I be looking for.

I don't know if it is related. But, the car had a problem with the heater blowers not working. I discovered the connector block had a burnt out pin, so cut it off and replaced with butt connectors.

Surely this would not now be throwing out the P0113 IAT fault.

In a link earlier is a list of possible causes of P0113, copied below so I would concentrate on these
Air temperature sensor at the air flowmeter
Electrical harness
Connectors

Any idea where I can get hold of a replacement harness, should I need that part of the IAT sensor.

If you are unable to repair any broken wires you find and need a new harness then it will most likely be a dealer only part.

Yeh that's what I was thinking when I couldn't find anything online.

From looking at the location, there's a metal bracket the wire is plugged into a connector block. So will take that off later and see if i can get anymore access to the cable / wire to inspect.

MOT is due in a couple of weeks. It obviously won't pass unless this problem is sorted.

When I delete the code on the obd reader, it tells me, code delete failed. But if I then start the engine, the eml had been switched off. Take the car for a test drive. The code/EML does not come back on. If I then turn the engine off, then restart. The code/eml comes back on! Surely the IAT is constantly reading? If a fault was actually there it would come back within a couple of mins of the engine running???

Keep the code reader plugged in whilst driving and see what the IAT is showing. Also try moving the wires around with it running to see if the EML comes on which might help with locating a wiring fault. If you can see pending codes look at those.

Shorting the pins out means at the wiring connector put a wire across its pins then plug in the code reader, turn on the ignition and see what IAT temp is being shown.

Tnaks, I am away with work for a couple of days so will have a good look when I get back on Monday.

Hi guys,
Seems I have an open circuit somewhere. Giving the wiring from the sensor effects the temp reading. Specifically at a T Junction. I assume that would be the 1st point to look at for a broken wire.

I'm guessing it would be fine to just solder and broken wires back together

Soooooo,

If i wiggle the wires into the plug into the MAF sensor, the data stream for the Intake Air Temp goes from -40 to around 15-20c. On top of that if i get pull the wires at the point it goes into the MAF plug it'll stay at 15-20c

Is it likely to be a plug/connection issue, or a faulty MAF sensor all along.

If a plug issue, I'm guessing the replacement is dealer only?
