Mk1 Peugeot 508sw Main Beam issue

Unread post by Para25 »

Morning Folks, running a mk1 508sw on a 13 plate with led directional headlights.
Struggling with a particular fault in that regularly the main beam fails to work either flashing or switching on, also happens when auto main beam is in action.
Works perfectly 60% of times.
It's both headlamps that fail to operate so feel it's probably not bulbs or fuse related
and it puts a check main beams warning when it happens

According to my info, a 2013 model didn't have LED headlamps (these were directional Xenons), but if you have the VIN I can confirm. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Ok, so these are directional Xenons as I suspected.

It's the engine Fusebox that controls supply to the Main Beams, specifically Fuse F11 (wire CM11).

However the dimmer controls are also fused separately for the left and right hand headlamps, also in the engine fusebox, and are fuses F27 (wire 2612 - left hand dimmer control) and F28 (wire 2611) right hand dimmer control), so I'd have these checked out and make sure the fuses are securely fitted.

A further possibility is the engine fusebox, which are known to fail over time due to 'weathering' and age, where they can suffer a bit of corrosion internally.

With the exception of the wiring codes, most of the component codes are indexed here:
2610 is the Left Headlamp and 2615 the Right.

That's great info Marc, seeing that when the main beams fail they come back within seconds and no input from me, it makes sense that it could be a connection issue. Where do I find the relay location, there's nothing in the manual. Looking at R6 in PSF1

Relays are not user serviceable - they're contained inside the engine fusebox which is a replaceable service unit - not designed to be opened or repaired.
