Thanks above for your input.
In the end, the rear calliper seized so had to be replaced along with the pad. More cost but not a disaster. It means I don't know if this was connected to the handbrake or not alas.
I could have done this earlier, but I took a couple of photos of the leak area in good light.
From the above comments, the site of the leak would suggest it's brake fluid. However the garage which repaired the brakes did top up the fluid (again?), I can get the aroma more easily by sniffing inside the reservoir, and it doesn't smell like the dripping fluid - and I'm sure the feel of the latter was more slippery, rather than sticky.
So I'm more hopeful that this is transmission oil, but would welcome any more thoughts as to where this would be dripping from.

Looks as if it could be a drive shaft seal that is leaking from the gear box. I would not let the gear box oil level drop too far since you could end up needing an expensive gear box repair.

Thanks, is this straightforward repairing a drive shaft seal?

It is not difficult with the right tools, but it requires the driveshaft to be removed, which requires the bottom balljoint to be released from the lower arm, so not an ideal job for a beginner. I guess a garage would take about 2 hours to do the job.

Probably there's not much more now to say on this matter, but I did pinpoint the drip location a bit better and could see drops forming on the transmission drain plug itself, unfortunately not captured nonetheless verified. Can a drive shaft seal leak from any area of the transmission?
I'm wondering also what are the chances this could be connected with the car's clutch replacement.

The driveshaft seal is located on the side of the gearbox where the drivehaft penetrates. It is easy to damage when refitting the driveshaft after a clutch change.

Looks as if you will need to take the car back to whoever replaced the clutch, you should have a guarantee on their work. Time to replace a drive shaft seal is about 1½ hours so if you end up paying, it might be better to use a Citroen dealer since the original 12 hours to replace a clutch might be excessive.
