Yet a bit more work on the car today, mainly brakes and handbrake. The pads and discs appear to have been done very recently, still shiny and silver with no wear but the handbrake wasn't holding very well and was pointing at the sky, so further investigation and the cable is broken in three places on the passenger side but appears to be ok on the drivers side. How did it pass it's MOT?

New cables ordered and will be done over christmas along with the clutch, as we have been offered next doors workshop with lift for a couple of days. In the meantime will leave it in gear when parked.

Just a few more repairs yesterday. Aidan swapped out the radio and found bare loose wires behind it, just a fire waiting to happen, the radio's plastic clips were damaged where somebody had taken it apart not very carefully. He was only going to put a new bulb behind the heater controls so I could find them in the dark, fortunately I have been driving these for the last few years and wasn't having much of a problem. The plug was damaged, so back to the 1.9 for the correct one and a little soldering and insulating sleeves and hey presto all ok again.

Suppose because of the negligible value of the car, professional repairs were out of the question so just a case of keep it running as long as possible.

Personally I prefer to put safety first. Oh and by the way I invested in a fire extinguisher which resides in my footwell.
