Re: Berlingo wiring diagrams
The diagnostic socket should be simple enough to wire up. The issue i think you will have is i dont know how you will get a working engine management light on as there is no direct output from the ECU for this as it is transmitted on the CAN

I think I have sussed out all components now so thanks for your help.
One last question. What's the VAN? You said it transfers signals via the CAN and VAN. What's that?

Re: Berlingo wiring diagrams
It's an older variation of the CAN network. Vehicle Area Network (VAN) is a serial protocol developed by PSA and Renault, used mainly for the comfort systems in a vehicle. Some earlier vehicles used VAN only or VAN-CAN and later vehicles using full CAN protocols.
In basic terms - it's a way of reducing wiring used in vehicles there's a controlling master computer like the BSI and a series of ECUs in between. Data is sent in packets and uniquely coded for each ECU, so that data can be sent along the same set of wires to the interconnected ECUs, with only the intended ECU getting the instructions - hence the saving of multiple wiring to each ECU.
The various data networks can be split into priority and non-priority systems, with engine and safety systems being priority, but things like the comfort equipment and media being on a different network.

Thanks. So it seems I may need to wire in the clocks then. We shall see.

Re: Berlingo wiring diagrams
Just don't cut into or splice any CAN wiring otherwise you will likely affect other systems. Also bear in mind that some systems rely on data from other systems to operate correctly.

Re: Berlingo wiring diagrams
On this vehicle which is VAN/CAN the CAN handles all the under bonnet stuff like engine, gearbox, ABS etc the VAN handles everything else.
The BSI is like the translator between the VAN & the CAN.
Also just thought about fuel cut off in an accident, on this vehicle there is no inertia switch & this gets handled by the airbag ECU via the VAN & CAN.

Ffs lol. Looks like I'll have to go down the scrapyard where the shell is and rescue some more bits then!
I'm hoping the looms will be long enough to put things where they need to be. My next question was to ask if I could lengthen the CAN/VAN wires. Thanks for the info.
Looks like a total rewire of my van coming up! Not what I wanted really tbh.

I could wire an intertia switch in for fuel cut off. I have one from a Ford of some sort. Was thinking I could wire it to the pump supply? Just a thought.

Firstly I'm thinking of wiring everything under the bonnet. Connect bsi. Connect up the original Talbot ignition to the berlingo loom. Connect the ecu and see if it turns over, gets glow plug feed etc then go from there. Worth a shot do you think?

Yeas you could do that, If you get an original one from a mk1 Berlingo I think the mounting points are still on the strut turret. I was more thinking however how the BSI will react to not seing the airbag ECU?Skylinenuttergtr wrote: ↑14 Oct 2024, 15:19 I could wire an intertia switch in for fuel cut off. You may be better off not wiring in the instrument panel, probably better off without the warning lamps
