That looks like it fits Xantia S2 not S1.

Which ?....the "found key" or the "rubber pad"

The rubber pad is S2.
The single button key is for a car without deadlocking, I don't know if all UK Xantia had deadlocking, but I haven't seen one without. Deadlocking was very rare on French cars.
S1 and S2 fobs are completely different, S2 is RF, S1 is infrared.
I don't think that I have any good S1 cases left, I had a few, but gave them away to needy owners. I may have a spare PCB in France.

The faulty 2 button key fob likely just needs the chips re soldering.
You make that sound easy.....which parts/is it DIY "do-able" ?

IIRC there is only 1 multi pin chip on the board. The soldered connections get brittle and when the fob is dropped, one or two break loose. Also check that the IR LED has not come loose.

The ease or difficulty of resoldering depends on the equipment that you have available. I bought myself a cheap hot air soldering station, as it allows all pins of an IC to be heated simultaneously.

If in doubt, ask Jim.

If you can get the board to me that's something I'd be happy to go over for you. Have fixed a couple of these now. Think I've only struck out with one which had a deeper fault where the chip itself had been fried internally.

Going over the solder joints isn't a *difficult* job per say, but you want a decent dose of patience, a narrow tipped soldering iron (or proper hot air reflow station in the ideal world) and a steady hand.

Well this will be interesting to fix !....I think a short piece of wire to the LED first then connect that to the PCB

Or, find another IR-LED as I would rather not destroy the other "working" key which I hope I can use/keep as a spare.

Anyone know the Spec of the IR emitter LED ?

I didn't know but wondered if fairly standard. CPC my local "electrical stuff" shop seemingly lists:

940 Nm
https://cpc.farnell.com/multicomp-pro/o ... dp/SC11561

860 Nm
https://cpc.farnell.com/osram/sfh4550/l ... dp/SC12374

There's a few different variants but as far as I can see only those two wavelengths.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to advise :)

I would try joining it with a blob of solder, Don't hold the iron on it any longer than necessary.

Ahh yes, but which one is correct ? :)

I was thinking that I should remove it and the broken leg section, add a new "leg" to the LED then reattach it to the pcb, I am worried about burning the LED getting in there to "blob" it.
Will removing the LED damage it/the PCB do you think ?

Key remote is now working....both the Locking and the Deadlock features.

I fixed it by using another IR emitter from another key as the leg was way to short to take heat. I de-soldered and drilled out the mounting hole then fitted the replacement.

Well done Alasdair, nothing like a result from a bit of part scavengeing!! :-D
