A "little bit" of cleaning going on.....I just cannot work in 10+ years of accumulated garage muck.

Well that has come up so well I wouldn't be surprised if you have a change of direction and at least sort out the tailgate paint!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Paint it/do it up/show car ??.......Nope...............the ORGA number says 2nd oldest non-HA/sinker car and 4th oldest diesel still on the road.
So not 1st/oldest in anything.....the Ratantia look it is then

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
Jim informs me I have a weak FDV with decreased flow (sounds PAINFUL) to my brakes which is showing as slow pulsing when braking....so as a minimum I have to remove it and clean its filters and change its O-rings/seals at at worst have it rebuild/re-calibrated at Pleiades....
As such and in preparation I ramped the car, set on high and started looking for this FDV thing.....well, what I did find was 30+ years of oil/road crap and all the ejections from an old LHM suspended PSA/Citron diesel...YUK.
So, off down to Screw-Fix to grab 5ltrs of their No Nonsense DEGREASER (my go to for such work/VERY effective and cheap !)
Applied after a warm-up run, left to soak for 1hr, another spray covering the really bad areas and left to soak for another hour......then the JetWasher. Left to drip dry, inspect, re-coat after checking for stubborn areas.how close I could get to those areas (not wanting to damage/"unplug return lines etc) and another attack with the jet washed.
(Note: the "drips" are water not LHM
.... I know, I know, really unique for a Xantia
)
The result will make things the undersides little more bearable to be working on/in/up through and of course, cleanliness is next to Godliness when working on hydraulic lines/fittings.

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
The 2ltr Activa has been ejected from the garage and the Sinker TD inserted.....time to start finding out why my brakes are hard to modulate.
So, up on 4x Axle stands and lets take a look starting with the front brakes.
Well, the pads look brand new ! Calipers are covered in surface rusting, nothing problematic and the lower pad securing pin just tapped out perfectly. The slider pin moves correctly and its seal is intact as are the piston seals......So all looks good there. Disk have no noticeable edge spalling and a tiny edge ridge The disk has a shadow from the pad....ummm, I wonder ?

Yep.....rears are the same and a new ball joint on the steering arm.
I wonder how the disk will clean up with 120 grit

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
Bluebell's did a treat and they looked worse than Ratantia's do... I put them on my rotary wire brush after initially cleaning them up with emery and then let normal braking do the rest...Stickyfinger wrote: 24 Aug 2024, 18:42 Yep.....rears are the same and a new ball joint on the steering arm.
