Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
I think that may be a known failure mode of the head unit, but maybe it could also be due to carbon build-up in the steering wheel switch. I recently had to dismantle and clean the switch contacts in my XM because the mode kept changing randomly between radio and CD.Stickyfinger wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 17:17 Both fitted, both working.............BUT.
Funny thing happening with the radio, when I press to increase the volume, the output --jumps instantly-- to full volume....it will come back down again and then is adjustable. Leave it for a bit and it does the same.... it does exactly the same with the steering wheel controls.
Maybe also also contamination in the volume switch on the head unit.

A known problem with the volume control circuitry Alasdair...Seen it before, it's a right pain in the ear. Is it a 3030 or a 4030? A quick way to tell is if it has a loudness button its a 4030...Skull wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 17:28Stickyfinger wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 17:17

Then I need to see if I can find a circuit of it... I may be able to fix it... The emphasis very much on the may and absolutely no promises of success...
How do those new speakers sound?

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
I have previously found the 4030 schematic or service manual on the internet, but it is lost somewhere on my PC. The trick is to determine the Blaupunkt model name of the unit. I do have service information for most of the Baupunkt CD changers fitted to the MK1 Xantia.CitroJim wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 18:16

I fitted a later Radio/Tape player...the one with the Aux port....I did not have the code for the one in the car when I got it.xantia_v6 wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 19:11I have previously found the 4030 schematic or service manual on the internet, but it is lost somewhere on my PC. That is the 4030 (with a "MODE" button). The problem is that "4030" is a Citroen model name and Blaupunkt called them something else (which I don't currently remember).Stickyfinger wrote: 06 Dec 2024, 21:46

Yes, it has the "mode" button.....not that I know just what it does

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
Steering wheel is off, no screws as there is no Airbag on a sinker, the front cover just clips on....all finished with the sewing the new #leather# cover now so ready to go back on......that will reduce my hand-sanitiser usage ! I removed it as sewing the cover with it on was a total PITA.
Both handbrakes now released...I think one side (F_R with the mystery short cable) is playing up, I will lift them both, fully push back the pistons and swing them both down in place again.
Lets see what that does to their operation and if the "sticking" goes away.
I also have an oil leak !!!!!
.......First look makes me think cam cover

Re: Xantia 1.9TD....wake up and back on the road after 10 Years
Finished the steering wheel........turned out OK
Took the locking pin/pads out...OK
The caliper did not seem to slide very well....so I decided to remove it and inspect the slide pin.....that is where the fun started.
I inserted the hex socket, seemed "loose"....but preceded, it just slipped ?? I checked its size in the other side, perfect.....had another go with the same result so I got my head in and squinted, huumm, it looked strange so I tried to slide the caliper off the pin, no go, it stuck !
I noticed the boot was split so I removed all the rubber I could grab...........then I noticed the PIN was flared out at the end and had a fracture running down it !
I grabbed the edges with some small pliers and two bits came away with a small bit of tugging.....bu@@er !
I removed the caliper and with mole grips/a lot of head tried to remove the pin.....no chance.....so I removed the carrier and took it to the bench where more heat, my vice and a hammer got it moving.
This is what I found. Note, the rusted area extends out to the edge of the fracture, I suspect at the last pad change a socket has been hammered into the hex, maybe they used a Torx in error With the slider pin removed I cleaned up the caliper, removed the remains of the now destroyed outside slider seal. New seal refitted, a new slider from my spares shelf to go with it has also been fitted.
