A chap from Northumberland who is unfamiliar with that part of Germany is never going to get it unless perhaps he was fascinated by one of Mary Shelley's novels. No google image search had to be employed, and with your excellent photo, google had no trouble coming up with the answer. A little read of this wiki page doesn't establish an irrefutable link between the book and the castle, but some interesting circumstantials.

This morning began with a quick drive up the motorway to find a breakfast cafe which happened to have a lovely wild flower meadow out the back:

Having devoured coffee and croissants we set off towards our main stop of the day:

We parked the car under beautiful blue skies and decided to leave the waterproofs and brollies in the car and go and explore. We were in for a real treat which would take forever to cover so here are a few pics I took along the way:

Having completed our tour we left the museum and headed across to the shopping mall and found a takeaway van selling schnitzel and burgers etc. We had our lunch and then as we cleared away our plates this happened: (its only a few seconds long!!)

Eventually we wandered round the indoor market which was being set up for this weekend's Truck Grand Prix and found a stall selling the classic motor racing ponchos, 5 euros each, so we bought a couple, donned them and made our way back to the car. Of course within 20 metres of leaving the complex the rain eased and by the time we reached the car it had virtually stopped!! :-D

We left the car park and set off in the sunshine towards our hotel this evening in Hiltrup near Munster. The journey went fairly well until we encountered another storm while on the motorway. While the German roads are superb in terms of surface they are a tad lacking in drainage which almost made me pull over when we got to the point of not being able to see more than 20 metres ahead. Needless to say we were still being overtaken by Audis and Mercs which were just being plain stupid!! Anyhow eventually we came out of the storm and enjoyed the last hour in sunshine , until we arrived into the village where our hotel is: (only a few secs)

After sitting in the car park for 10 minutes we finally managed to dive into the hotel leaving our cases in the boot until the rain eased! We went up to reception and signed in and then went back to the door to check if it was ok to access the boot. This was the weather then:
After the storm was over!!

So we grabbed the bags and settled ourselves in before heading out for dinner, beer and football, see POTD ! Having cheered England to their win I sat down to post this and a few other posts before hitting the sack in a few minutes!! :-D

I did wonder about whether you had been affected by rain. We had some thunder and lightning, with light rain, here in Wirral the evening before last. I fired up https://www.lightningmaps.org/#y=53.268 ... =0;b=;ts=0; and when I zoomed out I could see a huge curl of heavy cloud with multiple lightning strikes over the low countries and into Germany.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

We started yesterday by removing the air intake again and cleaning more oil out of the plug tube. The plug felt as tight as I would be prepared to do it, so I fear the issue may be more serious!! Potential hairline crack between oil ways and plug port I fear. Not much I can do about it while away so I cleaned it all away and put it back together. Redid the idle calibration routine and we set off for Hamburg.

Not much to report on the journey other than more observations on the misfire, it is running fine over 2000 rpm but below that the electrical and mechanical loading on the engine affected the misfiring. It will get another clean out today and general checkover ready for the next trip tomorrow. Tonight is the visit to Wunderland, the main reason for the whole tour, so looking forward to that. Hopefully we'll get a boat trip round the harbour today and general site seeing. Here's a taste from our walk last night: :-D

Everything had been great up to that point, walking back to the hotel after dinner, and some further refreshments, there were hire bikes and scooters abandoned all over the place. Unfortunately I didn't spot that one bike laying down beside the path had a black side stand still in the 'out' position which provided the perfect trip trap!! I fell for it and had to put my hands out to break the fall. At least I did achieve that objective at the expense of both hands being grazed and bruised and one knee bruised as well as a rip in the trouser leg.

Well on setting off to explore Hamburg this morning the first thing we came across was the evil bike which tripped me last night still laying there:
Note the side stand sticking across the path and it was dark at the time of the accident!!

We had a fantastic day split into four distinct parts so this post will cover the first, our walk to the harbour, and the second which was an incredibly prepared tour of a special cargo ship. There is far too much to describe so I will just include the raw pictures and leave it open to answer any questions arising!! :-D

Once we arrived at the harbour we had a look round to find a decent boat tour for the afternoon. We found a good deal consisting of a 2 hour cruise around the harbour and a free tour of the cargo ship museum moored in the harbour. So here are the pictures aboard the ship and any questions I will do my best to answer :-D

Hamburg looks great. I was there in the late seventies but never saw all that.
Not sure why we were there, I thought visiting Hostert Automata but that was Dusseldorf.

Something new to try Mick
After many years of never using the "Table" tools I gave them a go, and since found them useful in displaying a gallery on the forum like your Hamburg pics...gives a decent sized pic and you can click on each individual window for an enlargement. It looks complicated on a posting screen at first, but very simple in reality. To fool the syntax I have used f instead of t deliberately to display the simple form of a standard table.
This syntax produces a 2 row, by 3 column table. Normal image refs are inserted betweeh the [fd] [/fd] delimiters.
Obviously the "f"'s need to be changed to "t"s, and the posting screen "buttons" table, tr and td will add the delimiters without typing them.
[fable]

[fr] [fd][/fd] [fd][/fd] [fd][/fd] [/fr]

[fr] [fd][/fd] [fd][/fd] [fd][/fd] [/fr]

[/fable]
An example from your pics Note a click on the pic doesn't do an enlargement here because I have referenced back to your originals.

Looking forward to the next instalment :)

The harbour tour and ice cream took us nicely round to head for the main attraction of the trip so we did! We arrived too early for our admittance bookings so we had to waste 25 mins sitting on the steps inside the warehouse but outside Wünderland. Finally our time came up and we walked through to the foyer:
Choose your arch
Choose your arch
Our tickets took us through the 'purple' (looks more pink in the picture!) entrance where we bypassed the cash paying customers and got straight into the hall........................................................................

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically what we discovered inside totally blew our minds to the point that words will never convey the experience. In fact the pictures and video clips that follow will only give you an intial idea of what is involved. To get more from it you need to study the pictures in detail, what am I saying?, you need to go see for yourself!!
Oh for a swim
Oh for a swim

I have just done it again!!! I loaded all my pics on here and then realised I was in 'load draft' I so went back to reply and lost the lot.
I'll try again tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
