More van fun, windscreen wiper

Post by moizeau »

Strange occurrence the other day. Operated the wipers to clear some dew in the morning then went to work. Switched the engine off and I could hear a regular knocking from the engine bay. The drivers wiper motor was pulsing a couple of mm's as if it was trying to find it's home position. It must have been doing it during the drive but the engine noise masked it. I gently pushed the wiper down a little and it stopped, I presume I assisted it home. Operated the wipers again with exactly the same result and pushing the wiper down a tad resolved it. Obviously can't do this whilst driving. What are the likely causes? I hope it's not on it's way out because sourcing a RHD RHS wiper in France will be fun. There is nothing obviously obstructing it.
Cheers

Which one of the vehicles was that?

I'd try disconnecting the motor from the linkage, and see if the motor self-parks then.

If it does, I'd have a look for problems with the linkage, eg, wiper spindles seizing up.

Well, the next day was continuous rain so the wipers were on all the time. When I turned them off, both politely went home so must be a sticky spindle or connecting rod. I'll do as suggested next time they play silly sods.
