XM 2.5 Seat Snag

Folks,
On my '97 2.5 the passenger side seat has stopped going fore and aft on the rails.
There is a "click" from something down there, and the relay feels warm to touch.
Can the relay from the other side be substituted to eliminate this?
Do the motors burn easily?
Or is there anything else I should be looking for? I have no idea of "noises" around the time it packed up, as I was out of the car, and I think my 12-year old daughter was having a ride on it....

one thing to check is the motor.
If you touch the motor and try to move the seat can you feel the motor trying to work or is the motor hot.
If you get any of the things above it sounds like the motor has seized.
