Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Are the pictures Jay's put up just the carbon muck or some sort of corrosion going on?
Jay - have you had a go cleaning it up as yet? Interested to see what's remaining after a vigorous scrub down

Hi Jay - there is no set procedure detailing the configuration when the BHI is replaced - it just refers to using Diagbox to configure it.
I suspect I'm too late, but would of strongly suggested that you check the current settings with Diagbox on the old one and record the options so that you can enter the correct settings with any replacement.

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Afternoon gents,
@Matt - the point of the pictures is that one of the brush holders is melted, and the "board" they rest on is burned around the foot of that brush holder, so the commutator is essentially scrap.
@Marc - That's a good shout, I can plug in the ECU and get tore in at it with diagbox
I will need check to see if I have diagbox / pp2000 running on any of my diagnostics laptops? I know it's not on the newest one, yet, but I can't remember if it's on the outgoing toughbook with the dodgy keyboard or the retired to be cherished as a collectible toy HP touchscreen TX1000. I'd like to get a VM of pp2000/diagbox to run on the new windows 10 toughbook tablet, setting that up might need to be prioritised.

I'm beginning to think this might work, do you have any idea how do I get the electronics off the current / old pump?MGmike wrote: 23 Oct 2023, 18:11 ...I think your best option is a good used one in the UK and swap the electronics over...

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
If the pump is of the same type (the same power connecter and trigger connector) the valve control unit is held on by four bolts. It is that which you transfer across. Just undo the bolts, the ECU lifts off, and then bolt it onto the 'new' pump. I had to do this last year on my C5.
The reason I mention the power connector is that there are several BHi units out there, and they do have different power connectors. I was fortunate in that the replacement was from a similar age/spec C5, so the pumps were identical. It is the valve unit that is different depending on whether the car is a saloon or estate, but as I was able to transfer it across that was not an issue for me.

I was thrown off by MGmike saying "that looks about normal" - I incorrectly thought that meaning normal being "full of carbon muck" and it did look more burnt to me!

I suspected I was going to have a nightmare when I took the cover off the back of the motor and it looked like this:

...and his needed repaired

No need to go mad on the version - DB V7.62 will be fine - don't go later than this. Check the existing configuration settings with the existing BHI if you can, unless you are swapping the ECU from your existing one over. Remember that the BHI ECU and the additional suspension ECU on the V6 models talk to each other to control separate functions, so essential that the the BHI ECU is the actual one off your vehicle or configured with the exact same settings as your original if using a second hand one.Jay-Bruce wrote: 24 Oct 2023, 12:20 Afternoon gents,

As for those pics above - yours looks like it was about to give out any minute with all that conductive paste in the there - would of caused some fuse blowing imminently I suspect.

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Hi Marc, I've sourced a pump from another 2009 3.0hdi exclusive - so fingers crossed I won't need too much messing about with it. What happens if I go in with a later diagbox? The reason I ask is I've not got a virtual machine of 9.68 running on my diagnostics tablet, but I'm wary to use it since yo warned me not to go later than 7.62?

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Just saying that you don't need V9.* for your vehicle, as Diagbox V7.62 will work with vehicles to about 2015 so will easily cover anything needed. Going higher than V7.62 starts to remove coding functionality (the ability to change configuration parameters) and in V9.** are completely removed without online access.
So just saying if you already have V7 installed, no need to go to V9.
If you only have V9.** then you won't be able to change any parameters or configuration offline. But if you are swapping your existing BHI ECU, it should be fine.

Jay, just change your module on to the new pump and that'll keep all your configuration. Four screws is all it takes (way easier than building DiagboxJay-Bruce wrote: 24 Oct 2023, 15:37 Hi Marc, I've sourced a pump from another 2009 3.0hdi exclusive - so fingers crossed I won't need too much messing about with it. FYI, I would have to cannibalise a C5 pump to get you a very good brush set but I guess you won't need that now. Can I have the trigger box off the side of the dead motor before you bin it pls?

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Marc- is there any alternative / updated part numbers for the "angular pick up rods" as 5273.81 is on back order from Citroen with no ETA, which I'm reading as meaning "deprecated." I think that was the same part used for 508 headlight adjusters, maybe worth checking that?

No updated number - that is the live data and still remains the same Jay.

Re: C5 (X7) 3.0HDI - suspension pump brushes and height sensors
Thanks Marc - I've flashed a debit card at my dealer, but the parts guy said these are on back order with no ETA, so he'll chase it up in a couple of days, but he also advised that items marked up like that often don't come back into stock.
So...
Seeing as I've got 4x new sensors on my desk, I ran a vernier across the ball, and it's 7.85mm, and I've found rod ends with an 8mm ball socket on them...

...which would allow me to make some links something like this...

...by putting some threaded rod between the socket ends.
