Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
I think a visit there will need to be included in our next trip to the Worm, hopefully in September
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Amaranth.
Wondered about this for a while. I knew that it was a branch of flowering plants - but that didn't seem to fit with the use I saw it with.
Also grains, from the plants of course. But also means 'unfading flower'. Which fit with what I was seeing.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Bit of a coincidence there Steve. Turns out I am very familiar with your word of the Day, and its connections.
You may or may not remember from Jim's blog when he posted up a video of what happened when the camera was left running after a junior park run. A couple of youngsters wandered past the camera the first one waved and gave a thumbs up sign. The second one made a particular hand sign which I didn't know the meaning of so I looked it up. It is "the sign of the horns".

The wiki page for the sign is here. It is the "Sign of the Horns" and can have many interpretations. In "Metal" circles it means something like "Rock on" or "You Rock"
and who do wiki select out of all the people of all the world to feature on that page, none other than Elize Ryd.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Have to admit that these hand signs that seem so popular leave me cold, they all just look so silly and seem to be the property of the selfie crowd.

As it seems Neil has gone walkabout, which should bring us some good stuff in due course, I'll put this expression from Matt on here 'Cracking flags' originated in Jim's blog.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Don't think "indicator" quite cuts it but
Trafficator
does make it to "Word/Phrase of the Day" this Wednesday twenty-first of August twenty twenty-four.
and the associated word in Joseph Lucas Ltd's finest creative hour the invention of the word
Electricalities
For their 1935 publication which within its pages houses all you ever wanted to know about Trafficators but were afraid to ask.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Old classic car has the verbiage from the "Trafficators" section, but are a bit precious about their content even though they have pulled it straight from the 1935 published book themselves. Here's a link, and its an interesting read and plenty to enjoy in the writing, language of the time and the drawings.
From "Electricalities" "Looking after your Trafficators"

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
They were always trafficators back when I started in the trade, then when 'flashers' 'winkers' 'blinkers' arrived they got called semaphore indicators.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Without further ado, time to post up a word of the day. Best one I have seen today is citrojim's
The spell checker hasn't put a red squiggly line underneath it so looks like the spelling is right.
Now apocryphal, I'm afraid even with my considerable prowess at University Challenge I'm going to have to look that one up
Neil
and he followed it up with diurnal...that's once a day/daily basis isn't it, or is it just in daylight hours Both it seems.

Re: "Word/Phrase of the Day"
Todays word of the day, another Citrojimism from early this morning...
...usually with "days" added to it, but of course with CWS tins of paint connections in terms of their Kingfisher artwork on what is probably the world's most attractive tin of paint, although the Glasso Parrot does run it close as remembered here by Peter.N
