Apparently, a dishwasher is quite effective at cleaning up engine components.... but I've never been brave enough to try it 8-[ Not from fear of what it might do to the components, but fear of what Mrs Bobins might do to me if she found out

Yes, I've heard that too, and likewise haven't been foolish enough to try it yet!! Negotiations have currently got agreement that I can seek out a cheap second hand dishwasher for the garage (when it's tidy enough to actually accommodate one!) as do wonder if a diet with subtle undertones of 5W40 is a good idea! :-D

I can confirm you are right on both counts. The dishwasher made a perfect job of cleaning the engine parts of the Stag we restored, and my mate had to buy a brand new one before the wife got back from her weekend at a health farm. :^o

(In actual fact he was buying the new one anyway and doing the exchange while she was away so we saw no reason not to give the old one a last hurrah!! :-D )

Why not see if you could pick up a reasonably priced second-hand dishwasher?

That reminds me of a Giles cartoon, where there are two large (and fierce looking) housewives talking over the fence to each other. One has a newspaper with an article about how unreliable white goods are. The other one is saying "My dishwasher will never break down. He wouldn't bl00dy dare!".

Ha ha, reminds me of the joke about the "butcher's apprentice kept getting caught putting his, unmentionables, in the bacon slicer"
"So I sacked him!"
"What did you do about the bacon slicer?"
Spoiler: show
"nowt for it, I sacked her un'all!
:rofl2:

I like the dishwasher idea but sticking them in the tumble dryer after wakes up the whole neighbourhood.

Everybody knows that you put them in the oven to dry them off!
