DS5 problem with keyless entry

Post by vaho »

Hi. Maybe somebody has more info or experience about this. My keyless entry works with the driver door (left in my case - LHD) occasionally, it has never worked with the passenger door but always works with the tailgate. When it was not working with the doors at all, I got error codes as follows:

B1727 13 - front left door handle fault - open circuit
B1728 13 - front right door handle fault - open circuit
B1729 13 - rear left door handle fault - open circuit
B172A 11 - rear right door handle fault - short circuit to earth - this one is different ... ???

To be honest, I do not know where to even start, I do not think that all the doorhandles are faulty, could it be the central unit?

Thank you.

There is a controlling unit for the hands free system, plus several receiver aerials dotted about the inside of the car and of course there is the door hands free modules themselves, then there is obviously the wiring going through the doors which I would check first - especially where the wiring goes from the A pillar and enters the door - that's a weak spot and can cause breaks.

Here's one fault codes for the right door, but the others will be similar.
Fault Code: B1728 11
Description of Fault: Front right door handle fault - Short circuit to earth. Detection of a short circuit to earth for more than 2s on the electrical harness linking the front right door handle and the hands-free control unit when the Hands-free control unit is triggered.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • No malfunction detected on the electrical harness linking the front RH door handle and the hands-free control unit for 1 s
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Locking or unlocking of the vehicle possible either with the remote control high frequency function or mechanically using the emergency key
Symptoms:
  • Hands-free unlocking impossible on this handle
  • Hands-free locking impossible on this handle
  • Hands-free deadlocking impossible on this handle
Suspect Areas:
  • Electrical harness
  • Door module
  • Hands-free control unit

I also have a B1728 code for the right front door. Do I need to change the whole Front right door handle or would a aerial be sufficient?
The remainder of the keyless entry handles work fine. I will check the wiring, but I suspect that the module is faulty.
Could you please provide me with the part numbers for the aerial and door handle assembly

Thank you. I updated the post with some numbers that I initially thought were not important. I was suspecting the wiring loom too and tried to viggle it in the rubber boot area but it seemed to not make any difference. Also, all 4 doors to get the same fault is unlikely in my mind, there is always one door that gets used less hence the wires do not wear. Anyway I will start from the harnesses, as far as I can see it is not easy to remove them from the body to see the condition inside the boot.

If you are getting issues with all the doors, then it is likely to be the Hands Free Unit itself.

I can't answer that - it would need further diagnostics to determine what element is causing the issue.

I would ignore the aerials inside the vehicle - they rarely fail. There are multiple components inside the handles, any one which may of failed, but you really need to find out if it is this or the control module.

What is the issue?
What are the Fault Codes?
Have you checked the wiring at the driver's door aperture? This is a weak point where wires can break.

First, the passenger lock stopped working and the next day it didn't work for the driver either, Diagbox reports code B1727 13.

The Hands Free ADML unit is a pig to get to and requires on a left hand drive that the whole upper and lower trim on the driver's side is removed, the BSI is removed in order to get to it at (18). It is not designed to be easily accessible for obvious reasons.

Just be very careful in this area as there are a lot of electrical connections that are very sensitive, so don't put any stress on any connectors or wiring.
