xantia 2.1td problems with revs
Moderator: RichardW
thanks again for your replys guys.
KERED had someone mention this as a common fault on the puegeot 406 2.1td its the ecu coolant sensor.i went to Citroen but they only had the other 2 coolant sensors so gambled and lost.i will now get them to order the sensor and keep u posted.thanks again.
ZORGMAN thanks for your reply but havn't received your email as yet don't think this sites email must be working as i've sent u 2.
i will try the sensor kered mentioned first but if no joy i will post my email address on here and hope theres no freaks reading.so pls keep an eye on this thread.i'll let u know either way.
thanks again every one whos taken an interest.

not sure if its the ecu coolant sensor or the fuel temp sensor(citroen parts dept can't tell me what it does),but its the green one that sits behind the diesel filter and links to the ecu.
ordered it today from dealer cost under a tenner and should be in on thursday.so heres praying.
what the bloody hell does it want to know how hot the diesel is though,or need 3 sensors to judge how hot the coolant is,talk about making a simple process complicated.as far i can see no sensor.no ecu.no problem.anyway rant over and off to hit the bottle.
let u know how i get on on thursday(proberly be ranting about main dealers not delivering then though)
thanks dave.t

Tomorow morning going to change green sensor wich is the one conected to ECU
and that is apparently coolant sensor wich tells (how hot/cold engine is) ECU how ritch mixture engin needs. 2.1td dont have fuel temp. sensor only HDI-s do.Main dealer haven`t got a clue about it only when i show them treads from here and Peougeot forum they agreed to do it. Fingers Crossed.Other sensors are gauge sensor for a dash and other for fans.
By tomorow aftenoon i will know how succesful this operation it has been.

Good luck! You may well be right that it's not a fuel temp sensor as the Citroen garage concerned, like many others it seems, don't really have much of a clue sometimes.
It would make sense if it were the coolant sensor as it would be trying to over fuel a hot engine.
Fingers crossed and do let us know the outcome.

NOT A GOOD NEWS. DREAD
Changed green sensor and as i was driving away revs started playing an K light came on.
Drove around block and got back to a garage pluged it on lexia or whatever comp. and showed again pedal sensor but i daubt it becouse looking at green sensor mechanic had to disconect pedal sensor(wich records fault in ecu)and probably did not clear memory when he finished changing green sensor.
So Far i had two pedals sensors changed i seriously doubt that was case in first place becouse i had to disconect it few times to remedi it for a few days(when it hapends some times frekvently disconecting and concting pedal sensor would bring revs under control for a 5-6 days ,down side to it records as fault in memory henc two pedal sensors without real need HAHAHA.
Waiting to hear from mechanic just to confirm or deny all above.
If i am wrong tomorow wiring chec first thing in morning.
All sugestions most WELCOME i am runing out of time (Traveling this Saturday)

Can you ask your friend if it is fuel temp sensor where is it located and is your friends car 2.1td or 2.0 HDI.
Just remebered with full tank of diesel i cant recall problems only when below half or almost on reserv and reserv just a thought i think sombody mentioned it in earlier treds.(changed fuel filter when started playing ages ago).

I cannot see how this can be the coolant temp sensor - all this does (I think!) is to tell the injection pump whether it should be in fast idle mode or not. Try unplugging it to see what happens - it should go into fast idle, and the ECU light may come on as it will detect open circuit rather than some defined resitance value it is expecting.
Next I would get a digi meter on the pedal sensor - what does the output look like - nice and steady? Increasing with pedal position? Try leaving the meter connected whilst the engine is running - does the signal go up and down as the engine revs do?
I have heard lots of reports about MAF (mass air flow) sensors failing, and causing all sorts of odd symptoms - and this fits right in with those - if the ECU thinks the air flow is going up and down, but the pedal is apparently not moving, it will get confused. Try disconnecting the MAF (should be on the inlet tract somewhere - assuming it's got one!) and see what happens - it should go into a default map and run quite happily with it disconnected (in fact, some people report their engines run better with it disconnected!). Seems a particular problem with VW and GM engines this one, but could easily happen on PSA engines too. Be prepared for a shock when they dig the price out though...! Should be possible to get one from say Lucas or somebody though, it's probably a Bosch OEM part or something.
You might in fact be better off talking to Lucas or other diesel specialist anyway rather than the Citroen Stealer who can usually only manage to plug the computer in....

noted email now so u can edit your last post if u wish
should be fitting the new sensor tomorrow probably wasting my time judging by zeljko last post but i've already paid for it.
contact u tomorrow.

don't worry about your journey too much i've done about 7,000 miles in mine since the prob started and its not let me down yet
cheers dave t.
