Red certainly isn't new -

Remember seeing lots of these, did not realise at the time it was folks customising their own badges to be unique (like everyone else who did the same!)

Had a slight "red" moment with a BMW I spotted earlier in the thread Matt.
I have seen quite a bit of black badging on mostly high end cars, and Rolls Royce have their very own "brand" known as Black Badge https://www.rolls-roycemotorcars.com/en ... badge.html

Look out for the black badges on Audis, Mercedes, Teslas, etc when you are out and about, see if indeed it is a "thing" and bring some original pics back to the thread.

Ohh, that's lovely Neil - a bucket-list bike for me... I nearly had one once and let it slip through my fingers...

That red one is a very early one and lightly customised by the looks of it - and none the worse for it

A collection of "Black" lettering getting used more frequently now on a variety of vehicles. Ford, Jeep, Peugeot, Range Rover here. The Puma "Ford Blue Oval" is a very dark blue almost black as well. Vauxhall in particular on Mokka and Grandland and Mini on some of their incarnations also use black lettering. The Ferguson is just an old badge with a bit of patina in red blue and silver anomalous to the general "black lettering" collection! In this case all pics are click to enlarge.

Why is the Rolls-Royce logo red?
Oh, the red color! Initially, the logo was red to symbolize energy and passion. But, did you know it changed to black? Yeah, it did! Around 1933, the color was switched to black.
Some say it was to reflect a more sober, dignified image, while others claim it was to mark the death of Royce. It’s a bit of a mystery.

Don't know if you saw this a few posts back Gibbo, bang up to date in 2024, Rolls Royce have their "Black Badge" range....

Bit of marketing guff...
Imagined for those who reject conformity and live on their own terms.
Black Badge beckons the innovators, trailblazers, rule-breakers —
and above all — those who dare.

Back in the 50s when I had my 1928 Rolls the badge was red, I understood then that it changed to black upon the death of Henry Royce in 1933.

Those Capturs are nice cars to ride in... Only problem is, the one I regularly ride in only plays nursery rhymes on wireless with a little voice in the back shouting 'change!' when the current selection does not suit her taste :)
