A bit more work correcting the damage to the rear door shut outer skin that took some damage when the wing "compressed"...it pulled the outer skin a little when the seam between the wing/door shut skin was flattened....this needed to be pushed/pulled to flatten the "dents" that formed. The good news is that the three areas "popped" back to shape with a small tug after I had reshaped the folded over/compressed wing lip/joint.

You can see the holes where I used a self tapper and a slide hammer to pull the compressed areas. Home-made slide hammer and self tappers = OLD SCHOOL !

Next job is to cut the new wing below the blue tape and then size to fit the lower edge behind the wheel and the section below the small rubbing strip.

Are you going to treat the car to an all-over respray when it's done, or just the affected areas ?

Doggy day care does not open till 5pm today so I thought I should move along with the rear wing replacement on the XM.
1st cut on the donor wing after cleaning the weld lines of the factory rust protection (gosh it was thick !)

I then cleaned up all the edges etc, trimmed it as close to straight as my Mk1 eyeball would estimate and offered it up to check for fit.

I note some small dents to fix, some small bits of bashing to do then I will skim fill those once the wing is on the car permanently when I spray it silver.

Door off....

Used a spanner to lever the pins up/down, then a hammer on the spanner to move them slowly...

Magic! I'm coming down to inspect progress for myself next week. I may even bring Bluebell if it's nice :)
