The (Russian) Woodpecker

"Duga was an over-the-horizon radar system used in the Soviet Union as part of its early-warning radar network for missile defense. It operated from July 1976 to December 1989.

The Duga system was extremely powerful, reaching over 10 MW, and broadcast in the shortwave radio bands. It was given the nickname Russian Woodpecker by shortwave listeners for its emissions randomly appearing and sounding like sharp, repetitive tapping noises at a frequency of 10 Hz."

Difficult to get any decent shots when you're that close to it

On the wall

To rock away rock away from Cullercoats and Whitley bay out to rock away
And girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did
Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids.

A little excerpt about Wemyss Bay Railway Station from the series " The Architecture the Railways Built" , the series being full of excellent content throughout and available free to view on UKTV Play, same channel as "Bangers and Cash".

Lovely bit of architecture, and on the cover of Simon Jenkins Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations.

When did you last eat a piece of Wensleydale Cheese :?: I am thinking years for us. I do like to sample a bit of Local produce when on tour, and very possibly have consumed Wensleydale in Wensleydale. They did used to jazz it up a bit with Wensleydale and Cranberries or Wensleydale and Apricot.

I think I am fairly safe offering 1000 points for an original photograph of Wensleydale Cheese before W-Day comes to its conclusion. Of course the very creative could just pop down to the nearest Cheese Emporium or failing that TESCO's and photographing a bit. Maybe a bridge too far in the "odd" department...

Just for the record this is from our local grocer who comes round in a van once a week.
