Think when engine switched off it then cycles and I guess returns to the bypassing position ready for the next cold start - certainly that's the noisiest thing under the bonnet on our 206
Thanks - I've heard the clicking noises and not conerned about them.
I didn't know if because I had recirc on, there was more heat in the engine bay that usual? Through the winter, I tended to have the fan on hottest setting, at about '2' due to condensation, and haven't noticed before.

Where to start with what would presumably be a small'ish size oil leak under the engine on the floor?

This was a DV6 oil leak I had,

Other contenders:
- Oil filter housing/ oil cooler heat exchanger= gaskets turning hard and leak from here.
- obviously sump plug worth a quick check,
- less likely the sump to block "gasket" (is an "RTV" liquid gasket on this joint)
- camshaft covers (black plastic top covers, rubber gasket in grove round perimeter) - tends to be slow weep
- gearbox driveshaft seals or drain plug (unlikely unless recently disturbed by work in that area)
