Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
So I decided to do to assemble the rear shocks and springs last night. My spring compressors are too big and prevent the shock going in
. One of them decided to let go and just missed my face.
I decided to buy a hydraulic one. So waiting on it now. The buckets on the inner CV are worn so I m replacing the shaft on the drivers side with one out of a breakers.

I am Matt that's why I decided to buy the hydraulic one hasn't arrived yet. I bought one of these. https://ige.ie/coil-spring-compressor-h ... IeEALw_wcB

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I'm having problems with the right hand drive shaft it keeps popping out of the internal CV. Has anyone else had this problem? I have the same issue with the replacement so it has to be something I am doing.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Odd it's happening with the replacement... That it pops out suggests the shaft itself is a bit too short which makes on wonder if it is indeed the correct shaft for the car... Another possibility is something that's happened to change the suspension geometry on that side perhaps...
An interesting one..

I'm very confused by it I will take it apart again and see if I can figure out why it's doing this all of a sudden. It has to be my fault

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Sorry Darren, daft questions first:
Right side as sat in the driver's seat (the long driveshaft) or stood Infront of the car looking towards it (the short shaft) ?
The long one is retained by the intermediate bearing carrier - unless you mean popping out of the inner CV by the "second half" of the long shaft??
The short one just pushes into the gearbox. There is nothing retaining it (no circlip, just splines into, well, into the differential itself)
With the suspension in bits, short drive shaft will easily come out of the gearbox - in fact I'll routinely drain the gearbox oil if working on this side as I can't manage to keep the shaft from popping out (and gearbox oil everywhere)
If still pops out when suspension assembled, then as Jim says, seems likely it's too short shaft (and again as Jim says, odd original and replacement are both short in that case!)

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Sorry Matt, just seen this now. I"ve been flat out all week in work haven't had a chance to look at the phone really. I mean the inner CV on the drivers side RH long shaft retained by bearing as you say. It seems ok if I jack up the suspension on that side and rotate it, but with suspension hanging it pops as it's rotated.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I have the rear suspension rebuilt as of this evening so will have another look at the drive shaft tomorrow.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Ok so I put the one out of the breakers in and it fits
but knocks and bangs badly when I run it with the wheels off the ground. 'm wondering if its the bearing on the shaft causing this. It's sounds rough so maybe it's causing it to bind.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Darren,
That's good news about the drive shaft but bad re the knocking. Could the knocking be from the the outer cv joint combined with a worn bearing.
Have you compared the 2 shafts together for any differences.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I did they looked more or less the same. It could be the bearing and possibly outer joint. I think I need to dissassemble so more work. This car loves axle stands and hates being on its wheels

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Ok I took the driveshaft out the night before last and they are identical in length and the replacement has no noticeable play in it. The bearing is smooth so no issues that I can see easily. The old shaft had more play in it. I am going to drain the gearbox to see how the oil looks
. It's low on oil and just needs to be topped up.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I have drained the oil from the gearbox and it has a good bit of glitter through it but no chunks. I understand why it is behaving like this after just doing shocks. It makes no sense to me. The shafts seem to be turning smoothly in 1st but every other gear seems to be jumping/binding which tells me there is something wrong but I just can't figure out what.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Sounds like a catastrophic gearbox failure
A bit of glitter in the oil is often seen but that jumping and binding does not sound good... Is that when rotating the wheels?
