Ha, yes, those 2-door base-spec. Escorts do very much prove the rule by exception!
I can't remember now if they had vinyl seats just to add to the hot weather agony... And a steering wheel that burned your hands on a hot, sunny day, not to mention a red-hot seat belt buckle...
Them were the days...

No leather effect vinyl, a grey patterned fabric from memory. Yes scorching belt buckles!CitroJim wrote: ↑19 Apr 2023, 15:49 Ha, yes, those 2-door base-spec. Escorts do very much prove the rule by exception!

On a similar note remember gaining a small blister on end of my finger when a curious mind found that cigarette lighter, even when only depressed briefly (and far from glowing) was more than hot enough! Ow!
His was fairly late - E105 CNU. I remember being fascinated by the speaker fader joystick built into the dash, so not sure what trim level his was as guess that wouldn't feature on the true bottom of the range. He'd adjusted the idle speed in pursuit of economy. So with the slower idle gear knob wobbled left-right quite violently when in neutral! Also remember the exhaust tail pipe jutted in-out-in-out at same sort of frequency.
Final thought, I can also remember the trade in price he was given for it (when trading in for a mk6 escort estate) I turned my nose up at it so off it went at that price. Wasn't a mk2 Golf so I wasn't interested.
£10! Seems daft I didn't jump at it thought suspect I'd have been researching if the later 1.8 TD turbocharger could be fitted to the 1.6 as 54 bhp would have got on my nerves I'm sure!
