308 SW update:

Running well, but has twice since come up with "Engine fault, repair needed" no management light though. Will scan again soon see if anything logged.
More annoying, rear parking sensors have developed an intermittent fault! Beep + "parking assistance faulty" or similar. Sometimes then works fine, sometimes no message, sometimes does not function.
My pessimistic ear suspects a drop link or track rod end is begining to hand it's notice in too.

But today was fence and garage painting whilst the sun mostly shined. Obviously then triggered a rain shower or three but we ploughed on regardless. Washing on the line initially too so really were pushing our luck for it to remain rain free!! :D

Plastic hot staple machine update:
Very quick test of my gizmo this morning, works well. The white LED on mine is lit continuously. No rear red LED here. Fuse like others is marked 13 amp and plugged in without a few fuse gives no life so thankfully not a fake fuse holder!! Swapped for a three amp.

Incredibly tatty recycling bin lid the first victim: worked okay. Have also put a couple of staples in to the machine's case to fix on the missing corner.
Hopefully my little friend approves!

Mention the broken case to the seller: no reply whatsoever!

Can see me eating through the 50 staples of the useful "big wiggle type" in no time.

The cutters don't seem to actually cut the ends but useful for for encouraging them to snap off (can do it equally well by hand though a little hard on fingers)

I wonder Matt, if you'll have to take it to the vet to have the stitches out in 10 days? :-D

I finally had ten minutes to spare so I popped out to try the hot staple gun. On my first attempt at repairing a cracked tool box lid I was a tad heavy handed and pushed the staple right through!! #-o Second try made a nice job, I didn't take the phone out so no pics but the one thing I will say is that I got an acceptable pair of nippers diagonal cutting in my set. Snipped off the ends easily !! :-D Yes I'd say a great buy at the price and well worth having on the shelf. I replaced my fuse with a 5A as I didn't have a 3A to hand but I'm sure that is safe enough!! :)

Yes, think there's a bit of skill to build,
Enough heat to melt but not burn the plastic,
Getting it deep enough but not too deep,
That twist to get more material over the staple in final position.

Not sure if the staples themselves are another variable: I found some snapped off quite readily by hand, others just bent. In fact on the tools broken case repair, one staple pulled up out out the plastic rather than snap off. Like your practice piece, it's rather thin, so not much scope to sink it deeper.

As others have said, well worth the money.

Yes Matt, definitely some practice to make the most of it and off the TOMH I'm not sure what all the different staple styles are for- may have to read the instruction sheet!! :-D

There's an external corner staple (looking like a M but the outer two | | bits both snap off all the way up leaving just the V shape inte the item) think an internal corner version too, as above but the central V shape is inverted.

Finally I've got a straight "small wiggles" versions. Not sure what situation calls for this over the "big wiggles" alternative

Not tried any of the above as yet! :)

Successes:

308 SW towbar clipped in and little trailer taken for a tip visit - garden waste.

Dart Charge have written to confirm at last that they agree the tiny silver Aygo pictured is not in fact my but black C5 estate so they are closing "the case"

Steps backwards:
Back home after tip (forgot to take a picture of the full load)
Back home after tip (forgot to take a picture of the full load)
As can be seen wasn't hassle free as trailer's built in lights refused to function. Much faffing with a needle file on the very crusty terminals / bulb holders (new about 4 years ago :( ) got indicators both sides to light, but nothing else co-operated.
So magnetic ones again to the rescue!

Drain plug seems to be M16 x 1.5mm thread, but it doesn't give a length.
Pasted here for (my!) Easy reference and a post link to the answer on that endless thread!

Part numbers for possible knocking noise sources (will get it up in the air over the upcoming bank holidays hopefully to diagnose) and possible gearbox oil leak sources, again will have to have a look, but driveshaft seals a prime candidate.

Sump plug for gearbox (M16x1.5) magnetic version on order:
Price for two
Price for two
Bought a couple as same size for HDi Coupe and the 308 SW gearboxes.

Driveshaft lip seals also ordered:
Lip seals
Lip seals
The larger one is 9 mm wide Vs 11.1mm but should be fine (just don't push it in as far)

Brief updates more later when I get chance,

308 SW
knocking noise: driver's side track rod end is the culprit fair bit of play in that!
Gearbox presumably leaking as quite a bit of oil all over the (installed for a week or two) undertray.

Bit of coupe tinkering today:
Can you tell what it is yet?
