Certainly looks like it's taken a knock on that lug Matt... Hope it's not rendered it unusable but do check in that area for cracks before putting it into service...

Had a good look and rest of the casing looks fine. I'm hopeful it's survived ok, and a bit of action with a round file will give a hole the mounting bolt can pass through once more.

The set of clutch pulley tools arrived today, somewhat dwarfed by the alternator!

Both my one year old and my four year old sons were quite taken with the cure little red box that arrived (and indeed with the interesting bits of metal inside that are fun to clank together!)

Confirms that a 180 amp Mitsubishi manufactured alternator does have the 33 spline fitting on its clutch pulley. Will see if tool allows me to shock the pulley loose given the odd smooth hole in the alternator shaft.

EW10A gasket for coolant manifold versus EW10J4 cylinder head.
16815871904153015793375362613497.jpg
2 square ports to the right EGR connection to exhaust port on right connection to the head to left. No EGR on EW10A

Top round port is secondary air injection inlet also fed to exhaust port. This does seem to be present on both EW10A and EW10J4.

Mounting positions all align put differing combination and positions of studs and bolts.

Follow confirmation from Marc that I should have something holding the X7 spare wheel in place:
viewtopic.php?p=751695#p751695

I've ordered some webbing and some buckles:
Screenshot_20230421-073251-847.png
I've done my usual "it's cheaper for more and will come in useful" so 30m of webbing and 25 buckles. Need about 1 - 1.5m and 1x respectively!

C5 economy calcs again:

726 miles covered, 68 litres this fill up + 9 litres from a can (explained below)
77 litres = 16.96 gallons

726 / 16.96 = 42.8 MPG. Happy with that.

406 Coupe:

Replacement engine mount purchased, not the correct part number, but matching fitment and a hydro mount as it should be. The one I've purchased is listed for 306 and 406 DW8 and 2.0 HDi, am hopeful all alloy EW10J4 and DW8 or DW10 are close enough in engine weight and peak torque output as to make the mount chosen good enough. Wrong item picked as I'm a cheapskate obviously, proper part number mount = cheapest about £20 each. One I've got =£6.60. it niggled me that a good chunk of the cost was the postage charge, so undermined the cheapskate reasoning by buying two of them!

Have the 306 HDi to fix at some point and I've never changed this mount on that, so at least the spare should suit that application.

Gardening today (day "off") out with the boys tomorrow hopefully :)

Fuel can: filled three cans previously (10 litre cans but only 9 litres of diesel in as excessive frothing made getting another litre in a faff!) So have put the last one of them in part way through the last tank full.

Reason for doing this was to maximize saving on Morrisons "5p a litre off fuel" voucher. I've since worked out how much I'm actually saving per can
Spoiler: show
for those like me who can't do mental maths well = forty-five pence!
I'll not be bothered with that in future!

Also interested to see quite how close to my 70 litre tank capacity I am getting - 2 litres left if it is 70 litres. My 306 had 62 litres in its 60 litre tank on one fill, that really must have been "on fumes" !! :-D

No engine swap progress today, but a family ride in the C5 and a very much "engine filled day" out!

Anson Engine Museum= excellent!
http://www.enginemuseum.org

We planned then to go after dinner to Runway Visitors Park https://www.runwayvisitorpark.co.uk/vis ... formation/ but had obviously worn them both out sufficiently at Anson, as were both busy staring at their eyelids about 10 minutes after we but the road.
Also started to get embroiled in the bank holiday traffic, so gave the plane spotting a rain check and headed home instead. Actual car progress tomorrow, weather dependent...

In contrast these are in "I don't care what you think" / function over form orientation!

On with the boot torch modifications, this is my guide:

Boot light on the side is W5W / T10 type. Piddling output further hindered by glorious mat black "reflector"

Batteries are Ni-mh, Panasonic, stated "minimum 700mAh" AAA x3. Currently undergoing a bit of "discharge refresh" treatment in my fairly fancy charger. Were all reading 1.35 volts when first put in, charger is discharging at 250 mA and dropping quite quickly in the short time it has taken me to type this:
Batteries, discharging

Have an eBay LED for the torch end and an LED panel for the W5W
