Hello,

you will receive only a spring.

If you had just received the spring and not the complete strutt, as advertised, you could have asked for a full refund and they would have to have paid the return postage, which would probably resulted in you having a free spring.

Magic  Car seats are usually good for that... Mostly, unless the occupant is called Autumn or 31 years ago, Robyn

Autumn hates car seats when she's lively and only sleeps in one only when she's totally exhausted - just like her mum was at her age!

Sian, our younger daughter, was never a problem in a car seat...

How times have changed!! Both my daughters, as babes, used to travel in their baby bath strapped to the back seat of my Reliant Supervan III (with window conversion) ! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Yes, I'm hopeful all goes well - and what I need does arrive - but have that to fall back on.

It was classic example of a terrible description as it was actually listed as "spring" - hence my original question as to what was included and what wasn't.

My frustration really is with these setups who seem to leave someone with no idea to answer any questions.

Further to that a picture from their own listing with "is this bit included" was as clear as I could make it.

On the car hunt front:

We're booked in to go off to view the grey 308 SW tomorrow afternoon :)

Has anyone any recommendations from HPI / "car check" type sites? Usual is it a write off, is it nicked, etc etc

I use this site for HPI checks, It costs £20 but well worth it once you've seen the car and decided you want it: https://hpicheck.com/product-selection? ... gn=stage_2 :-D

Ashley Neil promotes something called Car Vertical that seems to be a car history thing. I skip over it so not familiar with it.

Morning all, had a look at CarVertical and HPICheck.com and also a general dig online

Interesting discussion here:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... arvertical.

Suggests that Vcheck is a good option, though £4.99 seems to be this option:
Basic Check
£4.99
Includes:
Police Stolen Check
Insurance Write-Off
Salvage Auction History*
Ex-Taxi Search
Keeper Changes
Number Plate Changes
Fuel Running Costs
Imported
Exported
Scrapped Check
Road Tax Cost
Basic Mileage Check
Technical Specification
Full Vehicle Details
MOT History & Tax Status
Rather than a more comprehensive full check which adds in:
Full Check
£9.99
Includes:
£40,000 Data Guarantee
Outstanding Finance
Vehicle Valuation
Colour Changes
Lots of fluff and nonsense (and also freely available) data on both options, not sure if Outstanding Finance is a legitimate concern, but currently think that's probably a good reason to go for the dearest option.

This site suggests the (old categories) Cat C and D would be shown on the log book (V5C)
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/ ... -explained

Copart, suggests Cat N wouldn't be on the log book but Cat S would be:

The main thing is Matt, I don't bother with any checks until I have inspected the vehicle myself, simply because if you pay for a check which comes back OK and then on inspection you find the car is not as described and full of tin worm or cigarette burns or whatever you have simply wasted your money on both the visit and the check. Visit first and check before you commit is the better way IMO! :)

Terrible picture in terrible weather!
Terrible picture in terrible weather!
One new addition to the fleet, home in the torrential rain!

Initial points:
Diamond turned wheels are absolutely knackered and look a state (and four different brands of tyres, Goodyear, continental, Landsail and Winrun??)

Parkers spec is wrong, it's the later 8 valve, not a 16 valve DV6

Spare is a space saver unfortunately.

Big sunroof is great (and annoyingly the electric blind is so smooth and quiet in operation it makes me uneasy about my C5s blind mechanism!

Third row seats have tiny legs room until we realised that the second row ones can be slid forward to reach an (ok) compromise for legroom for both.

Car does not seem that huge externally, which makes its "boot bigger than the C5 Tourer's" even more impressive!
Seems quite low, so that boot crammed with heavy stuff (and no self leveling capabilities here) is definitely going to be weight limited I think.

Magic :D We share engines now Matt :)

I trust you negotiated a big discount for the wheels and tyres ;)

My spare is a space saver and blown up to a ridiculous pressure...

Jealous of your electric pan roof blind... Mine are manual... Still, mine's a posh van and yours is a posh car so I'd expect yours to have the best kit :D

MattBLancs wrote: 29 Dec 2023, 11:38 Thanks both, know what you mean that a more van-shaped something would give me more capacity. At present I tend to be weight rather than volume limited for most jobs.

Am hoping to get trailer capability re-established ASAP and that also then gets capability to transport 8'x4' (2440x1220mm) sheets with my bigger trailer.
Am I correct that an 8'x4' is still too big to fit within even a C8?

The house project has 9' (2700mm) ceilings, so I'll have plasterboard for the walls to get that's bigger than my trailer (2500 inside of the bed. Isn't set up to run with the tailgate down: lights and numberplate are all on the rear flap. Re-engineering trailer to allow this or get stuff delivered. Local merchant is free delivery over £100 so that's likely best option.)

Also, the trials and tribulations created by the terrible engine bay access described on this forum have certainly put me off the C8! If it stripped down like that Trabant front end it would be a more palatable option! :)
I don't think a C8 would fit that size. In fact the only thing I can think of designed to carry that size board is a Transit van. That's what they were designed for.
