I used to seek out fully synthetic as a treat/ beyond the minimum for my cars. Now it's the norm. Next it's delving into the specs as just looking for 10W40 or 5W30 etc is no longer specific enough.

As far as I know if I look for ACEA C2 is the magic gibberish that means I've picked up the right stuff!

Was aware of "Low SAPS" being necessitated for DPF equipped cars (which all mine on the road are) Surprisingly there's no mention of low SAPS, mid SAPS or otherwise on these bottles - perhaps I should be worried!?
Be interesting to learn how much fuel it saves ;)
Some interesting thoughts on this. Basically, my understanding is lower viscosities are driven by this fuel saving aspiration. Also folks who recon this thinner oil is to the detriment of engine life. As everything in my "fleet" is well north of 100,000 miles, I'm not worried about reducing the "residual" life of them :-D

Thing is Matt, don't judge an oil on its viscosity. It's film strength under load is the critical thing. A good oil can be as thin as water and yet still do a perfect job of lubricating. Also, it'll flow better, especially when cold, and squeeze itself into tighter spaces.

I've just finished using bulk-buy Costco 10W-40 and last change on Bluebell I used some new Shell Helix 10w-40. The viscosity difference was significant, the Shell being noticeably thinner. Halfrauds 10-40W was very thick in comparison.

It does a perfect job and Bluebell is running very happily on it with noticeably less initial cold-start smoke...

I'm beginning to think premium oils are worth it and good value, even in well-travelled engines.

Just don't understand what these "ears" on the calipers are for!? (Old calipers are the same)

New calipers have been given a coat of clear lacquer (may as well try and keep them looking spangly new as long as I can!)

Busy with other jobs so rather loosing the light to make a start now.

Brake hoses have come too. Off next week so will be trying to make progress weather permitting

Annoying, seems this much angle:

Is too much for the tank to keep it's diesel contained.

I think this is likely an issue with the sender unit connection, big O-ring usually.

Add it to the list! :-D

Up that high to attend to bodywork Matt? I did initially wonder, with all those petrol cans lying around it, if you were planning to torch it if it didn't start behaving ;)

Yes that's the plan Jim, get a suspension arm unbolted (three bolts moved no problem this afternoon, the other end looks like the brake disk must come off to make access room, so on to the brakes next, then back to the welding (then other side rear up in the air for caliper and Flexi hose swap. then the front up for new bleed nipples and Flexi hoses, then get bleeding/flushing through fluid I've no history to confirm when last changed.

Still hoping not to drop the tank (even though I've just half emptied it) as is a good way from where the rust looks to finish.

Initial digging here, with slightly improved image.

Had a look today and bit of the sill, outboard on the seam looks like it'll also want chopping out and reinstating with steel. Not a hole just very crusty indeed.

No desire to "solve it with fire" as yet :-D this saga is probably the nearest I've ever got to that option:

A gentle removal in the services took this off and into the car.

Today I shall be playing a game of "how long do I need to hold this to be sure the silicone has a good hold of it? And is it going to rain on me whilst I am stood here like a human statue...
This lasted just under 12 months! Driving to work this morning, tap-tap-tap noise I quickly recognised. Fortunately a couple of miles from the services have chance to nip out and pull it off again (only about a third of its length seemed to be stuck at this point, so think lucky I pulled it off when I did before it flew off!)

Will have another go when the weather warms up

Long winded suspension bush question coming up!

I remember watching an Up N Down video on his C6, which despite my best efforts I've failed to find for a second time! In the video he described there being a difference between front lower wishbone bushes (the rear one of the two)

The aluminium bracket surrounding the bush had a different "height" of the centre of the bush relative to the flats which sat against the subframe.

Can anyone confirm this and, better yet confirm which of the two variants I should look for? (On the basis of the C5 X7 Exclusive being the same as the C6 in regard to these bushes)

Here's what Autodoc has and the description of each:
Type 1
Type 1
1 details
1 details
Vs
Type 2
Type 2
2 details
2 details
I've tried to get each in the same orientation, but it's not leaping out at me to be honest!

Those Autodoc ones look like they might fit but the right hand part looks a bit weak...
