Unless the welding job is ridiculous, then should be able to overcome this hurdle:)

Have begun accumulating parts:
Pair of new rear calipers
Pair of new rear calipers
with the discount code, 15% off made it £55.21 including delivery, for two calipers, puts to bed any worries about corroded pistons, scored bores, knackered seals and even seized bleed nipples to bed in one movement, felt like a no-brainer!

Whilst I had a code I have also picked up four oil changes worth. I think this is suitable for the C5, HDi Coupe or indeed the 206 HDi. States C3 in title, but also ACEA C2 in the description
4 x 5 litres
4 x 5 litres
Again 15% off, £39.73 (£9.93 a bottle!)

That seems very reasonable. I just paid £28 for 5L. The last calipers I bought were £80 each.

Yes, I thought so too!

I've read the discussions here on the antifreeze that wasn't great, but hopefully the Mannol oil, so long as meets the spec will be good enough.
Amazingly I've had a FedEx message come through and the oil might even arrive tomorrow!

Calipers am amazed how cheap too, Autodoc normally pretty good yardstick and they are more like £100 for a pair. Maybe they'll be absolute tripe, but worth a go. Claimed 2 year warranty, so seems worth testing them out.

Hopefully they will be OK, at least they are not as important as the front calipers.

Yes I'm hopeful they'll be fine. Sliders will be taken apart and greased, bleed nipples etc confirmed good etc on arrival. It is a straight forward, single piston caliper (handbrake is a separate mechanical drum brake in a drum-in-disk arrangement) so about as simple as can be.

Will investigate the old ones, maybe get rebuild kits if seems salvageable. No surcharge on the new pair that's coming, so the old ones are free to do whatever I want with. :)

Brake calipers have arrived today.

Like the unsuitable tag line on the box!

"Go further"

Err, with brake calipers surely "go less far" is the general intent! :rofl2:

Had a quick "dig"
(edit: Increased the brightness so can actually see the hole)
(edit: Increased the brightness so can actually see the hole)
Near a suspension mounting (the longitudinal trailing arm) but fortunately not that close to the fuel tank.
Eminently fixable I think.

Surprising how bad it is as I did not spot anything pre MOT, didn't look anything like as bad before I had a dig! Oh well. :)

Shop, shop, shopping

Not sure why last one comes up as £15.37 when actually cost £18.44

Wondering about the dust shields now, as suspect the wheel bearings/hubs have to come off, so a bigger job. Not sure if that's a one way journey for the bearings too (inner race pulled to bits on removal??) So might be a job for another day.

'cos it'll be coming from far far away* and that price is the ex-VAT cost.

*- or the seller will be far far away but the item is over here. Or vice versa. Or you're complicit in a multi-pound tax fraud :rofl2:

Ah, interesting it's is an ex-VAT price (£15.37 x 1.2=£18.44) I've seen listings where it's says "includes VAT at 20%" or words to that effect, but never noticed it then shows the ex-VAT price on purchase history. Odd.

Location is listed as
Germany

So fingers crossed there's no money laundry afoot! :-D

Yes, it snowballing it's a massive task is what I was most concerned about! Fingers crossed it doesn't pan out like that when I dig further into it.

No prizes for guessing what arrived today:

I'm going to have to start buying posh oil now, for the Picasso.

Be interesting to learn how much fuel it saves ;)
