The tip must have been very concerned at your absence Matt! Did they send a member of staff round to check you were OK...

Good work on the car... I now know what a FRIP joint is :)

All best with the MoT :)

Cheers Jim, I've got both the HDi Coupe and the C5 in for test one after the other, so every chance of being carless by the end of the day!

Some good pictures of the new FRIP here:

It's a strange thing, don't really understand why it's not just a second ball joints below as well as above. My theory is that they most die off due to water ingress (hence the grease nipple idea) wondering if could add one the the existing bearing in the current part dismantled state to be honest.

They look a bit like a bird's foot Matt!

Grease nipple is a good idea. It's something that was once recommended to do after having a 205/306 et al rear beam overhauled so you could get a decent amount of grease in there...

Much swearing occured but the inner race is off.

New bearing stuffed with grease. Will tap it on with nipple removed (route for excess grease to escape and sod's law I'd smack it accidentally)

Anyone know which way up the metal ring goes?
From eBay link (item I purchased)

Seems to sit against bearing more keenly the opposite way to how it sits best against the hub!? Not particularly enamoured with it's fit on either and it's very generous centre hole let's it sit miles off concentric.

Eenie meeny miny mo coming up shortly!

It is....

I added some wax underseal (Bilt&Hamber) to the top of the ring to prevent water collecting/corrosion in the "tray"......and would have done the nipple insert if I had kept the car.

Took some shifting, well mangled by the time it came loose, but old ring removed.
IMG_20231204_143825250.jpg
Some grease above the new ring as well as below (just liberally everywhere :rofl2:
Surprisingly robust tapping with the hammer to bring the new FRIP into place.
Swapped to a straight grease nipple, couldn't get the 90° version to engage with the threads again (access limited)
