From Paul's thread, Marc provided the availability of the bits:
Both ends of it look pretty tired on mine, don't think I could shorten it twice and get away with it (risk of things getting kinky!)
Any tips on materials with LDS compatibility?
Unfortunately the rubber hose is part of 5270SE. Need to identify it's key dimensions and get a replacement length of something similar.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑17 Sep 2023, 10:51If it's the return harness pipes shown below, all those shown are available Paul:Paul-R wrote: ↑16 Sep 2023, 20:46 I guess this is on the return circuit so not under huge pressure. @GiveMeABreak Marc - Is that split hose still an available part? Although I actually think I could snip the split bit off and simply remake the connection. There's a lip on the end of the hose which would be lost but I doubt that's critical.
Looks like it should be an easy job. I reckon I could get it done while Thought for the Day is on the Today programme!
(1) Hydraulic Fluid Return Harness, part: 5270SE, £46.60
(3) Hydraulic Fluid Return Harness, part: 5270WR, £169.30

Blurryell, it's déjà vu all over again!
It's fairly thick hose and oil resistant. I put oil resistant hose into the Ebay search box and this is one of the results.

I'm not going to crawl under the C5 now but maybe you've measured the OD of the metal pipe and the OD of the hose that goes onto it. If the OD doesn't match the original hose then you'll have to use different hose clips of course.

Thank you, aiming for 5 mm ID hose, see if local factors has anything (metal pipe measures 5.1 OD with the calipers)

Thank you for the eBay link, that does list 5mm ID hose (10 mm OD which also matches current item)
Quick tip trip with more plaster in the Coupe's boot then to local motor factors. They had 4.8mm ID "fuel injection hose" that I'm going to try. Medium eye watering £9.75 for a metre of it.
Fuel pipe clips (not Jubilee, the screw type) two "selection" blister packs was a surprisingly dear £4.99 a go, and as one one of each size bought a couple of those. So am nearly £20 into solving this, perhaps the £40 genuine thing is a bargain!
And now, not only has it gone dark but the heavens have opened... So tomorrows job instead. Flipping weather.

Feedback on the job:
Rigid plastic hose tail seems to be a slightly larger size. Tube pushed on fine but needed the 9-11 millimetre fuel pipe clip whereas other end comfortably used 8-10mm
Only a small drip apparent when either end disconnected thankfully. Though I did have five millimeter timing belt pins to hand as stoppers. I made the new tube 20 mm longer than the old which means it rubs on the height sensor half arsed weather protection plastic box.
Weather is absolutely abysmal and hence really sucked any enjoyment out of otherwise pretty straightforward fix. Yuk
Steel pipes have had quick sandpaper and phosphoric acid next will slap on little bit of black paint hopefully to preserve them

Close up of the old hose ends for interest. Rest of it seems pliable and good condition.

That's exactly how the hose on my car perished.

Interesting isn't it, it almost seems the stress of sitting on the larger barbed lump on the end assists the failure.
It's why I made it long (then if goes it again can shorten one or other end) am hopeful it rubbing on the plastic box unlikely to cause any meaningful damage (but will try to keep an eye on it whenever under that end)

And that's exactly how I've seen pipes perish on many Xantias and XMs... Always where they expand to fit over flares...

Still drizzling but painting finished or at least I've run out of both paint and enthusiasm, back on the ground next

I feel better about the underside of my C5 now, my goodness do they like to rust!
Great bit of detective work on the pipes, hopefully that's sorted it!
