Had need to change the C5 rear tail light bulb today, the one on the boot lid a R5W type. Single filament, 5 Watt bayonet type of which I had precisely one "in stock"

Seemingly is near enough as cheap to buy a load as to buy singles, so twenty "added to my basket"

Whilst on with bulb buying I remembered I'd none of the weird front indicator bulbs (PSY24W also known as HP24W also known as "needlessly different and for no obvious reason")

I know there were inroads made to the similar daytime running light bulbs (which also have a stupid integral base and ludicrous price tag)

Has anyone 3D printed a conversion bulb holder yet?

HP24W base and a "standard" (BA15S, I think??) Socket would be ideal! Would even settle for the little nonsense reversing light bulb type (H21W as per viewtopic.php?p=749890#p749890 ) if needed something slimmer!

As it is I'll pay £8 for a single indicator and £4 for twenty tail light bulbs (cheapest I can find of either)

Lens on one of the seven light lenses looks more than a little odd!

Will investigate some LED versions and try to minimize the amount of rearward travel in the interim!
Perhaps just "wack in them 10W bulbs" - it'll match nicely with the melted reversing lamp lenses perhaps! :-D

The 5 Watt version seems a little rarer, so £3-odd gets me only ten (rather than the twenty 10 Watt for same money) oh well learning curve!

That'll give you some very brilliant tail lights Matt!

Be cautious buying cheap bulbs in quantity. I bought a pack of ten amber indicator bulbs a while back. False economy - they had very short lives...

I did the same, five or more years back, still have nine of them.

I bought a pack of 24 bulbs a couple of years ago but they were physically too large to go inside the fitting so I chucked them up the garden in frustration. Had a lovely display of daffs the following year but my lights still didn't work! :-D

I could have made good use of those Steve, still could!

I used most of my cheap ones... On average, they lasted precisely one journey! I was reduced to carrying them in the car and swapping them as needed... I did eventually find two in that particular consignment that lasted reasonably...

Another problem with the cheap amber ones was the amber coating was poor and they looked decidedly less amber when lit than the colour of the coating may have suggested...

Seriously, I've had that exact problem with vintage radio pilot and scale illumination bulbs...

I have bought several packs of cheap bulbs, used a couple then never had need of any more.
And bought relatively expensive ones that lasted no time at all.
Where possible I would use LEDs now.

Me too generally, though I've just changed both front side light bulbs back to standard filament versions (T10 type) = seemingly both had failed to my surprise, though I had not checked them for a good while. Quite easily changed once you remember the top black plastic flap (two push rivets and one metal "yank it off" type clip) on each side needs to come off and then the generous rubber cap beneath is revealed.

Two C5 fill ups in June update:
661.9 miles,
66.58 litres = 14.67 gallons

45.1 MPG

Next tank full:
(1153 miles: trip not reset, so minus 661.9 = ) 491.1 miles
60.01 litres = 13.22 gallons

37.1 MPG.

Given second tank is made up from my wife's shorter commute (28 miles each way Vs 40 each way for me) plus lots of short school run ~2 miles round trip each one, that's pretty good going for a big lump of car with a big-ish 2.2 diesel.

Nice long steady run tomorrow, see what that does for it.

Think the Coupe has taken offence that it's not doing the long trip tomorrow, as this morning:
Spoiler: show
