Nor have I Steve, I've always used my gas cooker grill for toasting crumpets...

I'm told by my chief kitchen designer I need to get a toaster for my new kitchen...

I am feeling like a major thread de-railer here (sorry Matt)... but I have to kick in that I think your method is best Jim - far better to do toast under the grille where you can see it - and can quickly throw on cheese, ham and BBQ sauce...

Cheese does tend to slide off the toast if you're using a toaster.

Precisely! I do like to melt cheese on my crumpet :)

I then top it off with Marmite and peanut butter...

Matt, why are you always doing dump runs on a Sunday? Are you slowly demolishing someone's house?

I have always done toast in the grill. Need a new cooker as it takes about twenty minutes to make a slice of toast now. Rarely make toast though :)
Cheese toasties in the George Formby grill works well though.

May try it in this:

An Åviken waffle maker from about 1970, found in the attic where it has resided for about thirty five years and was completely forgotten.
I don't think we even bought it, it was probably an item we photographed for a mail order catalogue and it was too much trouble for them to log things back into inventory so was 'forgotten'
One of my mates got a washing machine and a tumble dryer!

The best cheese toasties are done in the toaster with a toasting bag
IMG_20230912_181729.jpg
so you don't have to lay the toaster sideways

Doesn't that make the toast a bit chewy?

That's an awful long way to work! Did you take a detour via China?
