P.s. wheel arch liner arrived today (quick delivery!) and if the weather permits I'll get it in place tomorrow or Sunday morning.

That's intriguing Matt... I've never felt mine regenning although I know from Diagbox interrogations it does happen from time to time...

I'm considering the LED mod myself, it would be good to know having a visual aid too that lights up then a mental note of miles when this light come on & off then that can be compared to the diagnostic findings, might make for an interesting set of results.

Here's my most effective "regen awareness mod" - straight through exhaust! 206 exhaust back box fell off (for second or third time - as standard this is a stainless box but a mild steel band around it with the mount on said band. Corrodes a treat!) so I made a straight through with polished 3" stainless tip. (Well it is a GTi (HDi) you know!)
When it was regenerating there was a noticeable booming from the exhaust, particularly at 60mph in 5th, that was not present at all when it was not regenerating

A very rare bit of C5 related "progress" this morning:
Removed it's battery and put it on charge. Almost certainly completely dead, given it was registering a pathetic 1.33 volts before charging. On charge anyway see what happens.
Next, the blue 308 is getting it wheel arch liner upgrade.
Before: Why I don't think that it's correct:

But first, need to reinstate a fixing here (rear corner of the arch)
Rivet nut, a size up: M8 is the plan.-

Let this dry and then arch liner into place. The captive nuts on the arch liner have had a M6 tap run through them and then a splodge of copper grease each. Tatty and functionality questionable sound insulation moved from old to new arch too.

Nice job Matt but I definitely have mixed feelings about the intercooler being subject to wheelarch crap with the grille in place. While I accept it should get much better airflow I'd be tempted to back that grill with a sieve like sheet to keep the crap off the cooler matrix when reversing!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Yes, I've resigned myself to the fact wheel spinning in reverse on grit or gravel is off the cards from now on!mickthemaverick wrote: 02 Mar 2025, 17:40 Nice job Matt but I definitely have mixed feelings about the intercooler being subject to wheelarch crap with the grille in place. I did think about adding some protection (perforated stainless steel plate would be ideal) but it'll be another day's job.

Sorry, just to expand that, in case it's not that clear from the images- the angled blades of the grille point downwards, so would present a solid surface to material ejected from the front of the tyre when the car is moving forward (assuming it moves tangentially from the wheel)
But in reverse, the tangential movement will throw stuff up and straight through the grille's openings. Even more so, when forwards the stuff has to stay in place for about 270° before coming to attack the liner/intercooler, whereas it's only 90° from floor up to grille when reversing.

Not to derail the picture thread ( viewtopic.php?p=831817#p831817 ) any further, I was having an idle online search about these hydraulic car ramps.
This Reddit thread really confused me!
Strangely the site then claims to be Costco All distinctly fishy!
Can't find it on Costco's website:
https://www.costco.co.uk/search?searchO ... text=Ramps
Nor on the American version of the site
https://www.costco.com/s?keyword=ramps
So suspect likely a scam.
