Now that's a proper payload Matt... A job I soon have to get cracking with in my garden before the pros move in to properly landscape it for me...

Oh yes, a nice full trailer, just the ticket!

The Blue 308 didn't miss out on the jobs, a semi-full boot if other stuff for the tip this morning, whilst we were there. (The trailer booked slot precludes bringing anything else in the boot in the same trip. I'm sure there's some reason but beats me!)

After that, some DIY on the house, very dusty mucky job. Shower then a nice take away tea time treat :)

Today's attempted fix is the grey 308 side mirror switch. For a few weeks this has refused to move the mirror in one direction in particular but seem fine for the others.
Driver side switch remove from here..

Then some delicate work with plastic trim tools to open up the non-serviceable innards of the switch itself. Needed 14 pairs of hands so no picture of that.

Here's what's inside:

Tarnished switch contacts cleaned with a spot of t cut type car polish as I couldn't find my metal polish. Then quick clean with switch cleaner.

The corresponding contact on the tiny delicate metal movable contact is also tarnished not quite sure how to clean this up as yet.

Just for reference my fingers are relatively normal size! So you can understand the tiny little thing I'm trying to fix! :)

That is very similar to the contacts we had on relays in the good old days!! We used to have an exceptionally fine file called a 'file burnishing' for cleaning them. I would advocate some patient gentle rubbing, 'burnishing', with something like 400 grade wet n dry wrapped round a small electrical flat blade screwdriver, but use it dry. :-D

Good shout on the wet and dry, I used a bit more contact cleaner on a bit of cloth and it's much better.

Going back together slowly, trying to make sure all is right way up, right way round and aligned whilst clicking the two halves together!

James usually recommends the rubber on the end of a pencil.
Haven't tried that, I usually use lugholepokers and isopropanol, just done a couple of vernier calipers.

Good ideas for next time, thanks!

Lughole pokers is just the sort of terminology my aunty uses, made me chuckle! :

Next on the list for fixing, that screen wash with stuff growing in it. I was rocking my brains what to put into the stuff to kill it off without adversely affecting the washer pump.

Then I had a thought, heat!

Three dead frying pans and the tractor funnel with its gauze filter seems to be filtering stuff out. Didn't boil it all but took it near. Interestingly the black growth went from milling around in the middle of the liquid to floating on the top. I'm hopeful that is indicative of them being dead!
