TRW / ZF offer two different ones for (what is probably !) your car. One is 'sheet steel' in construction, one is aluminium. They have two completely different OE part numbers across the range.

Are you sure that is the right way round Matt? If it's the right, driver's side wheel, then to undo the nut you need to turn the nut anti-clockwise and hence the wheel clockwise which means driving forward surely? Unless it is a left hand thread and then the opposite applies!!MattBLancs wrote: 05 Aug 2024, 15:11 Sat in National Tyres - they're going to do the tracking shortly.
Just evolving Mick's "engine assisted" method:
Car on the ground, wheel centre cap off (or swap on the steel space saver) breaker bar through hole and rest end on the ground, drive forward (or backward for this one as it's the right wheel)
Would achieve same thing with less "dump the clutch and dive for cover" ?weight of the car and grip of the wheel both working with you my suggested method.
Driving with loose driveshaft nut is not good for wheel bearing, but a foot or so shouldn't kill anything, I'd hope

The alloy one does list the same Peugeot part number as listed on the alloy FAI part I've bought off eBay: Just back from National Tyres, all sorted. £44.99.
Stubborn side put up a good fight for them too!!

The big breaker bar arrived today, but I am absolutely livid, I've been short changed!!
This is what I bought: And this is what the seller has the bare faced cheek to send out to me:

There's quite a few different part numbers for the wishbones Matt; Yours are 98 463 297 80 (left, replaced 96 783 113 80) and 98 463 292 80 (right). They are £150.90 each from the dealer...

You are quite correct, right wheel should have been drive forward, left wheel would be mirroring the setup hence reverse.mickthemaverick wrote: 05 Aug 2024, 16:15Are you sure that is the right way round Matt? Normal thread both sides.
I couldn't work out whether the bar digging in and trying to lift the car was to the benefit or detrimental to the desired outcome:
- on the plus side, weight of the car would then be resisting the lifting action which would then be increased the torque applied.
- on the negative side, lifting the wheel would reduce it's grip on the ground, hence would in effect reduce the torque it was able to transmit in effect from the other wheel, which is seeking to move the whole car forwards, meaning rotation of the wheel that was now being lifted, meaning net reduction in torque transmitted.
Also, I don't own a skateboard so am unsure what "and then the skateboard exploded" adds into the overall risk as a new and interesting failure mode!!

Great drawing, for completeness, I've superimposed what my half inch breaker bar looked like at the weekend: Not a bad likeness for my facial expression at the time, included too!

That is why I bought my super impact wrench which can deliver 1300+Nm of torque. Never had a probem since!

Come on Matt this has been very quiet of late!
Did I miss the post where you got your hub nut off

I think your manual equipment you have in hand now should do the job, although when you mentioned "Gas Pipe" as the leverage extension I had visions on 22mm Copper Pipe, when really sawn off scaffolding pole would be more robust. I take it the Gas Pipe would be steel!
The solution is one of those heavy duty impact wrenches Mick mentioned...you can hire them, or drive the car down to a local garage and pay them for "slackening" the nut with their equipment. Short of that if you are desperate which hopefully you will not be with your new breaker bar, there are a couple of youtube vids of "techniques you can try" not yet mentioned in the "undoable hub nut" scenario.

Yesterday was preparation then getting first piece of plasterboard up on "the project house" bathroom ceiling,
Today we're out for lunch in celebration of my Mum's upcoming birthday, then back to usual as have a trailer tip trip booked in for 16:00 - load of gardening waste to get rid of.
Tomorrow morning is a run in the blue 308 to pick up a car seat that was too cheap not to put a bid on: result I was the only bidder, so £8 is the winning total!
Just over an hour away to Didsbury to collect, so my eldest is coming and we'll have a bit of "an adventure"

Not sure what's next, I've the week off so more house progress, more car progress and looking after my two boys are the prime ingredients
