Thanks for checking.

I had a very quick couple of minutes with a round file and the Dremel thing, I think a bit of crude machining is possible.

------------

On the car hunt side of things:
Wolverhampton and Dewsbury 5008 options have both dropped off their respective platforms (eBay and Autotrader respectively) so that's a couple of 2.0 light coloured leather interior 5008 that aren't contenders.

Black 207 SW outdoor (with towbar, looks good condition. up for £1500) looks a good option but is a couple of hours drive from here.

Just to confirm, Haynes is in agreement "lower ball joint to hub carrier: 230Nm / 170 Lbs.ft"

C5 -

I have been wondering about air ingress to fuel pipework as potentially what's behind the non starting. I think I've read of changing o-rings in the fuel pipe connectors - need to have a dig on here.

Possible "new" car, trying to arrange viewing of a Citroen this afternoon/evening in particular a
"2014 CITROEN C4 GRAND PICASSO 2.0L BLUEHDI EXCLUSIVE PLUS 5d 148 BHP"

Euro 6, more powerful 2.0 HDi, six speed manual. Sun roof and interesting interior. I'll have to grin and bear the touch screen (had Grand Picasso as hire car and my dad has had a couple in the past but all in 1.6 HDi or the petrol turbo form)

This page gives some good service interval information:

At 105g/km doesnt quite hit the current Zero Tax Band A enjoyed by Jim's version of the C3 Picasso, but £20.00 a year is negligible.

Of course all that can change.

Interesting aren't they!
Symmetrical in the back though!

Yes £20 (says Parkers) or even £35 (says the seller!?) is pretty good. Weirdly the equivalent 5008 (Euro 6 2.0 HDi) seems to be in the £190 a year bracket!

Its what the DVLA say that counts. The category of vehicles first registered between 1st March 2001 and 31st March 2017 has tax determined by CO2 emissions currently.

If the 5008 you are looking at was registered after 31st March 2017 it is currently taxed at a flat rate £190 for the second and subsequent years, after having a first year tax charge based on it's emissions.

Details here from the DVLA horse's mouth.

You may not have picked this up, hiding away on Jim's blog but an interesting list of pre April 2017 cars which are currently eligible for the zero vehicle tax band A.

Its only particular versions, not all variations across the model name, some a bit of a surprise.
https://www.evanshalshaw.com/blog/used- ... -road-tax/

Number 1 on the list....
To benefit from free road tax, you will have to opt for a xxxxxxx with the 1.5-litre dCi engine, which produces 114bhp while returning a very healthy 74.3mpg on a combined cycle. Emitting a very lowly 99g/km, you can enjoy paying no road tax
Number 5 on the list
When an estate or large SUV just won't quite cut it, you'll be pleased to know there is the xxxxxxx, which is a class-leading MPV that won't cost you a single penny in road tax. Inside there's acres of space as you'd expect, so you'll never hear your passengers complaining about head or leg room. If you want MPV practicality and zero road tax, then you will have to buy the xxxxxxx with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi engine, which produces a humble 118bhp. Remarkably, this large passenger vehicle can return 74.3mpg on a combined cycle, making it the perfect mode of transport for families who want to watch those pennies. With low running costs, no road tax, and a space-age interior, there is plenty to like about the xxxxxxxx.

Neil
I'm currently looking at a very surprising zero tax option. Not a seven seater (like C4 Grand Picasso or 5008) but a 5 seater with a pretty huge boot.

Surprised to find not only the more humble 1.6 HDi variant is free tax, but also the storming 148 bhp 2.0 HDi too!

If you fancy a guessing game, I've hidden the answer in a spoiler below:
Spoiler: show

I peeked Matt. Another one for the list. Not that easy to frame a search to find a list of all the vehicles between 1.March 2001 and 31st March 2017 which have official emissions figures of 100g/km or less. Maybe that's an ask AI one :-D Some versions of the Vauxhall Insignia, and the Volvo V50 also qualify.

One of the Mazda 6s I looked at was £0 tax, a 2L diesel. Skyactive or something similar.
Didn't go for it and possibly just as well as they eat timing chains apparently.
Not sure of the year. Clueless actually, I don't know what year the one I have was made.

A purchase has been made!

Not the one above (in the spoiler, with black wheels) but it's twin brother sporting original (diamond turned and hence looking a right state!) alloy wheels.

Just completed the 70 - odd mile drive home (54mph average= busy M62 and M61) at 65mpg indicated! Road tax £20 on this example.
