EW10A with EW10J4 oil filter housing, cast steel alternator bracket and EW10J4S exhaust manifold. Flywheel but no clutch

= 244 lb = 110.7 kg

5kg heavier. VVT on inlet pulley, wonder what else accounting for the extra weight!

Actually the earlier engine had the later engine's heavy cast steel rear engine mount / driveshaft carrier when weighed, likewise the later engine is wearing the earlier lighter aluminium mount/d. Carrier. So it's a little more heavier still! Odd.

Actually the answer is right in front of me = exhaust manifold and alternator bracket. Actually has cast aluminium coolant manifold / thermostat housing from earlier engine swapped over too.

Let's see if it works!
Almost a month of (not massively intensive) use and...

... It seems to have worked!

Have not had a "boot fails to close on the first attempt" since.

If all it needed was a little lubrication I'm delighted frankly! Hurray for a little win! :)

(If it does do it again I will report back)

I've had a think about the Coupe.
I think I've had a think about the Coupe.
I've seen something online, then I think I've had a think, and...

Ok, I'm still working on the justification, but the answer is:

One for weekdays and one for Sunday best. Seems like a perfectly reasonable reason to me :-D

I've always liked the look of PUG 406 but always worried about the ride. Citroen is designed for ride so.....are PUGs any good?

206 GTi-HDi on 205/45R16 = thumps over the bumps, quite a firm ride (but fun, "chuckable" !)

306 Dturbo spec HDi on 195/55R15 (or cheapskate option teeny bit less sidewall 195/50R15) = lovely compromise between comfort and chuckablity. Also really good fun, though always felt needed but more power than its 90 BHP.

406 Coupe 2.0 petrol on 205/60R15 = very similar to the 306 (obviously though a bit bigger. Not unwieldy big, just feels but wider and bit softer than the 306)

406 Coupe 2.2 HDi on 215/50(I think might be 55?) R16, and I think possibly lowering springs = quite a good notch firmer and a step towards (but still a good way off the crashiness ) the 206.

Of the 4, I'd say the 206 was probably the least successful mix.

As comparison, my C5 X7 (on 17" wheels, can't recall the tyre size off top of my head) shows up the 2.0 406 a little (and makes the 206 feel broken!!) :rofl2:

Re MFD failing above 5degsC. This may not be the case on your car, but on my 2001 C5 the culprit is usually the MFD driver ECU (22SY451) which is located in the dashboard, behind the instrument panel. It has a small integral cooling fan. I have not yet determined whether that fan runs permanently or is temp controlled (like a PC processor). Luckily, it is only a few inches beneath the ducting to the driver's side vent. So, I drilled a hole in the duct and stuck in a short hose directed over the ECU. In the summer, it plays cool aircon air over the ECU to cool it. In the winter, I block off the hole. Simples. Search for 22SY451.

Good info, thank you, I'll have a dig. I had heard mention of a cooling fan - but had wrong end of the stick as thought was within the MFD itself. Took that out and no fan to be found. Had a few extra cooling holes drilled before it went back. I'll have to dig deeper and see if I can locate the fan cooled ECU instead.
