As promised on the (sadly postponed) Wander thread, I said I'd try and get myself to Great Sankey to see the start of the Drive It Day, making its way to Heskin Hall
The clan
The clan
At the starting point, MGB and MGB GT, a couple of MG Midgets (intriguingly one had a five speed gearbox!?), the "what's this then?" (Posted in there: viewtopic.php?p=797691#p797691)

Also, a few pens with lambs, goats, pigs etc to see and smell. So we then went in for a hot drink which snowballed into a "second breakfast" I had a double egg barm and the boys shared a sausage barm.

Next week made our way to Heskin Hall. There we saw all the cars from earlier plus 924, Austin 6, some modern flash Merc coupe thing, and half a dozen Scout including a six wheeled example. Lots of Corvettes of lots of different generations, a Talbot saloon (horizon?)

Sorry not more pictures, fully occupied talking to the boys about what we were seeing :)

Then, came home and back to usual. I've booked a tip slot for next Saturday, so set to, filling up the big trailer
Garden waste
Garden waste
This has been piling up for about 6 months, so will be good to clear this out.

Magic

Drive It Day completely passed me by this year. Had I realised I'd have taken Bluebell out for a spin...

It would have been a lovely day for it and the heater would have seen some action too, given how unseasonally cold it was...

I'm still sad about the Wander postponement. Possibly for the best though as I'm still not at all well and you'd have not seen me at my best :(

Here's hoping we can do so in the not too distant.

Enjoy filling that trailer Matt ;)

Hi Jim,

Yes didn't catch my eye until pretty much Sunday morning that Sunday actually was Drive It Day - normally seems to have more fanfare (over YouTube / Facebook channels I follow) but little mention that I've taken in anyway.

Keep getting yourself better, lots of fun to be had once you're back 100% :)

:-D

Thought it a good test case for longevity of these staples in service. And also, it was broken so I had to fix it

If your bin men are anything like ours Matt, they don't exactly treat them with loving care...

Good repair!

Yes that's my thoughts process too - if these staples can survive their "tender loving care" then that's big stamp of approval from me!

Not pictured, but after I snapped the extra pins off, I smoothed the surface down with soldering iron. Thought I'd a picture but seems not.

C5: oil and filter change. 152 thousand miles. Service counter reset= 20,000 to next change. Seems rather a long interval for a diesel!

308 SW: took the big trailer with the garden waste off to the tip.

Trailer: the big trailer lighting also suffering from water ingress so needed a clean up to restore functionality.
One side trailer wheel bearing a bit of play, so cap off and tightened sixth of a turn and cotter pin reinstated. Topped up with grease (both sides) whilst I am at it.

Coupe: bit of welding clean up / preparation. Reinstated it's EGR system (noted as absent by MOT man)
Used BMW EGR clips which are an adapted Jubilee clip and excellent to use. Even second hand they carry some value (these were £4 each off eBay from memory) Autodoc now carries them new for about the same price.

Here's two methods for EGR valve mounting bolt access.

IMG_20240428_164013146_HDR.jpg
Stubby= from above. Collection of extensions on quarter inch ratchet= from below!

Here's good illustration as to why a cable tie is NOT a good hose clip:

(Just visible is the old blank where the EGR valve now sits)

I remember those from around the time I was using the duracells, (as mentioned the other day here), maybe that had something to do with it. :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
