Re: Ends...
I'm rather delighted at how this thread is coming along too Neil I passed through an End today but as I was TT Training I couldn't stop to take a decent photo as it would have upset my average speed... My bike cam might have a picture though..

A couple of 10 Minute Thunderstorms, and Tathall End isn't averse to a bit of flash flooding

Re: Ends...
Oh gosh yes, a very regular occurrence Neil... I know as I used to go through there twice a day on my way to and from work...NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑21 Feb 2023, 17:49 A couple of 10 Minute Thunderstorms, and Tathall End isn't averse to a bit of flash flooding
It was often handy to have a Xantia in those days - raise the suspension and sail through
Some days the brook that runs parallel to the road for some distance would be nearly up to road level in the morning and then in the afternoon the road might be almost impassably flooded...
One contributory reason was a failure to keep the brook free of weed. Since much more attention has been given to regular dredging/weeding and keeping a culvert in good order things have been much better...

Re: Ends...
I went past a couple of our local Ends today:
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Ends...
Excellent Mick Keep 'em coming
in 40 miles of cycling today I scored a very nice haul
Lots of West Ends in the locality!
No official sign but it is marked as such on the OS map...
The residents love their End
And finally, a bit of a scruffy one...

Re: Ends...
Just the one for me today in 30 miles of cycling... Only one but a good one with a story attached to it...
The road the fingerpost points to, which soon turns into a track and then a footpath, leads to nowhere in particular nowadays but years ago it led to Ravenstone Junction on the railway line between Northampton and Bedford via Olney. At Ravenstone Junction the line from Stratford on Avon via Towcester joined the Bedford line.
Rvenstone Junction was never a passenger station, just a meeting of two lines...
There's absolutely no trace of the old junction now but in other parts there's still bits of the old lines still to be seen if you know where to look...
