Re: FCF Archives: February Ferret
Just number noticed, the random hand selected thread 1 and thread 245 with 1 being the newest and 245 being the oldest at the time of selection in the standard Falcon classification rule book. Purely random perfect book-ends selection.

Following your noticing Neil I noticed these current positions of our respective signatures:
Struck me as rare that we should both have palindromic total posts at the same moment!!

Nice spot,
Keeping it visual I give you a pair of Lalique Falcon Bookends to reflect the random selection by the ferret of the newest and oldest threads from the Falcon's catalogue of 245 FCF threads.

Re: FCF Archives: February Ferret
Nothing formal for February 2024, but last February managed to fill a few pages with some random selections from the archives. A lot of good stuff in the vaults gathering dust.
Just looking at the Off-Topic Section of the Forum, there have been to date 4,835 topics of our many ramblings.
The random hand today selected page 46 of the 97 and just used a bit of Falcon bias to select a thread from the 50 on the page.
This popped out....Jim started a thread on the New Renault Zoe back in 2012 with the official advert, then goes off on a tangent about a memorable episode of the Sweeney

I saw it whilst watching an old episode of The Sweeney. Great telly - they don't make 'em like they used to... The Sweeney is still good despise being over 30 years old now and it's aged well. It's good to watch it to see all the old cars in the streets of London.
Continuing on the Renault theme, in last night's episode there was a car chase involving Regan and Carter's Fraud Granny and an R16. Cars really didn't handle in the 60s did they? the Granny was rolling a squealing like an old sofa whilst the R16 was just rolling!
Earlier the R16 had been involved in a hit and run and was described by a witness as ''white, possibly foreign..." How times have changed. In those days the vast majority of cars on Britain's roads were British and to have a foreigner, especially a French one, was very left-field...

I suspect this was the advert Jim was referring to, a creative classic from 12 years ago

Todays random number selection was 2782, from the pool of 4,834 topics on the off topic section of the forum.
One for a reminisce for Jim in particular, but plenty contributions from active members at the time, and the usual bludgeon off-topic!

Re: FCF Archives: February Ferret
What's the situation in 2024? Getting into motoring just too expensive to be worth it Do the youngsters of today desire to get themselves into early car ownership, or is it way down on the list of things they want to spend their money and time on.
An associated general thread is Just passed your Test (linked below) and it is a good place to mop up such matters, and a perennial place to reminisce on your own Driving Test and first solo experiences. Mine involved the exciting world of dropping my brother off at the club, and picking my Grandma up for her Sunday dinner!

NeilNewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑30 Nov 2016, 07:39 Can you remember the genuine thrill and elation of passing your driving test. I certainly can. Next though on your mind, I need to get mobile, get my own car, and join the magical world of independence and freedom that motoring can give you. All this often in your teenage or early 20's. In my test passing era of the 1970's there were no real unsurmountable barriers to this, plenty cheap near MOT failures to buy and no real problems getting insurance.
Fast Forward to 2016, and if you are under 25 and a recent test passer, insurance if available is eyewateringly expensive. Thousands not hundreds. If anyone has ploughed through this process, and I'm sure many of us as parents will have, share your experience here. may help someone else!

Just out of curiosity and the joy of rolling the dice, the random hand picked out topic number 4428 from way back in 2004 from the 4834 topics on the Off Topic Chat Lounge.
That is on page 89 of the OTCL section (where my page 1 is the most recent page) entitled...
and the member name Marty Hopkirk comes from...

Would that be from a ghostly TV series with a partner named Jeff?

The random hand picks out what the random hand does, no guarantee of interestingness.
It does appear to hitting the very old archives...today is topic number 3885 from 2005.
It is FCF Member "paranoid" with the thread titled
Nice comments from the members at the time though including one of the forum heavyweights Alan S. who probably set the tone for this forum which has continued to this day. Greg1100 summed it up thus

Well I have finally done it I have got the top of the range Rover 75 I have lusted after since 1998 so the Xant will have to take a back seat and eventually find a new home To all moderators and good people who have saved me hundreds if not thousands over the last few years thank you very very much. Especially to a Mr Jon Wood for services above the call of duty, I hope he looks in to see this

Re: FCF Archives: February Ferret
Never intended doing a February Ferret on a daily basis from the archives of the FCF after my January sabbatical. More of a haphazard ferret this year. Some years before the thread "Interesting and Unusual Engine and Motors" would have provided the perfect home for this, Malcolm started this thread which was selected by the random hand this morning.
Stick with it never mind TLDR its only a couple of pages, it's an interesting read, and a polite minor little skirmish of semantics with Dippy and our very own Citrojim, all resolved amicably

unsurprisingly the main link from back in 2011 doesn't work but there are some pics at the bottom of Malcolm's post.

Have to do one of these today, end of February 2024, and the 29th as a bonus.
Regardless of what topic number 1549 out of 4839 OTCL topics is about, it's getting an airing today.
Thanks Jaine for your thread "Driving Music" from the largely pre-youtube and pre-streaming explosion days of 2012, with respondents replying mainly in words and lists rather than direct links to tracks. First responder Michael, formerly known as Northern Mike.

Jaine's original thread is here...Class of 2024 I would encourage you acknowledge what has gone before, and make a new contribution to the old thread. I will.Jaine wrote: ↑04 Oct 2012, 10:02 What are your sounds when you are in the car (apart from dash squeaks, rattles & for me the K&N)?
