The Turkey in Enfield used to be an away venue for our darts team but it is long gone now and replaced by flats:

W is for Warbler
Well there is a pretty new place called the Warbler on the Wharf at Milton Keynes owned by that Hertfordshire outfit McMullens.
Some very inaccurate "Warbler" on the signage
regards Neil

I think the London pub The George and Vulcher may be the best we can do for the 'V' :

If it isn't a pub sign it ought to be, and we'd have an X bird pub!!!

X is for PheoniX
Yes X is one of those letters where a bit of manufacturing has to go on.
Pleased to visit the Pheonix Inn at Stanhope on a nostalgia trip. Weardale was a bit of a journey from proper North West Durham. You used to have to get a bus to Durham, then one to Crook, and then on the Weardale Motor Services Coach to Stanhope to go fishing on a couple of miles of the Wear from Stanhope to Eastgate. Which establishment issued the permits for fishing...none other than the Pheonix Inn. I remember it as the Pheonix Hotel and it has had some name changes but I see it is a Listed Building now under the name Pheonix Inn

Y is for Yaffle
If you know your Bagpuss you will know that Yaffle is a name for the Green Woodpecker. There was a pub in New Milton called The Oak and Yaffle and what a gorgeous bit of sign art this is by Peter J Oldreive

Re: Pub Gallery and the odd hotel!
Simply because we are having a get together there on 5th January (everyone is welcome) as discussed here I am going to claim that the bird connection involves a certain female muppet and the letter requirement is met in the name The LaZy Pig in the Pantry:

Re: Pub Gallery and the odd hotel!
There is some great artwork in pub signs and yesterday I discovered Peter J. Oldreive a sign artist whose work adorns and enhances many pubs and inns across the Country. I love his colour and style self-evident in the artwork for the Oak and Yaffle ( viewtopic.php?p=740082#p740082) which prompted me to discover more of his work.
There is an excellent selection here to browse through

and yes, jumping out from that page, one of my favourite pub names, and the icing on the cake superb sign artwork by none other than Peter J. Oldreive. This one is or was in Portsmouth, the most well known to me is at Birdlip Gloucestershire and there are currently 4 pubs of that name across the country.

You're going to have to be quick for The Air Balloon at Birdlip as its last day of trading is this New Year's eve, then it's going to be flattened for road improvements.

Re: Pub Gallery and the odd hotel!
Now having discovered "pubsgalore" and the sign artist Peter J Oldreive I discover there is indeed a pub called the Cormorant, and it does have a sign by Mr Oldreive... 181 Castle Street Portchester Hampshire to be precise.NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑12 Dec 2022, 11:18 Yes it starts with driving past a new housing development at Blyth with a road called "Albatross Road". How ridiculous....when was the last Albatross seen in Blyth?.......A cormorant flies past as we are having our coffee overlooking the river. Why wasn't the road named Cormorant road? Much more appropriate.
As far as namings go the Cormorant gets a raw deal. How many pubs are named the White Swan, or Black Swan, The Pheasant, The Blackbird etc but is there one pub called "The Cormorant" I doubt it.
