Or like playing football, or hockey, or sometimes not actually doing anything unusual at all.

Yes the "Puffer" is a mad event for mad people (they won't mind me saying that) but, by and large, most of them get the "hurt" that others suffer could find them or their friends and family too. Humour helps but donations help more.

The Mountain Bike Trails are quite varied, from medium to Excruciating - find out more about the Bridge of Thighs. The organisers make a lot of effort to make the event suitable for a variety of individuals and as sociable as possible. It is amazing how far some of the competitors travel to be there.

Looks like new safety regulations being brought in for mountain biking/downhill racing, my youngest son's passion.

Been there. Event organising and marshalling is very difficult. Issues like this fatality will force events to be very restrictive or close down entirely. Marshalling and Spectator Control is not a new problem.

That was a real tragedy...

Like you Dormouse, I'm involved, in a small way, in the organisation and directing of some local running and cycling events... We give risk assessments a great deal of time, care and attention and take appropriate mitigation measures where we determine risk exists, however seemingly remote or unlikely... The parkruns I'm involved with are subject to regular risk assessments to the finest of detail. If we don't submit them to HQ within the timeframe and they approve them we cannot put the event on. Same with the bike racing events...

You only really get to see the potential risks properly when marshalling and competing in an event. Risk assessments are not something you can do from the comfort of an armchair or on a theoretical basis over a pint in a pub...

Yes, absolutely...

I hope the regulations won't be made so stringent as to dilute events too much. Danger and risk will always be present but against that, all possible measures must be taken to mitigate risk as far as possible.

I like Boats. Some of you will remember my Narrowboat adventures. Some may also remember I like Tally Ho. But you are going to think I am totally mad when I say that I considered putting this YouTube video in the Electric Vehicle Thread.

So, what ties all this together? How can you compare a Narrowboat and a Tesla? And why is Tally Ho involved?

Answer in my next post for the less inclined.

There are some narrowboats that are electrically powered. Some members may recall me mentioning a vessel I saw in the Birmingham area that is powered by fuel cells. I have been told about another vessel that has unusual solar panels that are translucent and work from either side. The panels are horizontal, while the roof the the narrowboat (underneath the panels) is mirrored. The panels generate enough power to recharge the batteries on a reasonable winter day even if you are cruising (although once the light levels drop too low the batteries have to power the boat).

First batch failed Quality Control - this will be given to the Plebs (and me)

Pot cleaned, next batch started but not using Carnation Condensed Milk this time.
I have encountered a different sweetened condensed milk; produced by Tropical Sun. I don't know if it is any good, but when I was in my local Post Office (which is also a corner shop) I saw it and remembered you. Ocado carry it in their range.

Condensed milk! Didn't even know you could still get it! Brings back some childhood memories and I reckon that was the last time I saw it...

Dormouse, that looks delicious even if you consider it failed... Looks good to me ;) Feel free to recruit me as a tester of subsequent batches :)

Happy to exchange for some of my special flapjack :)

Still plenty around. I mainly shop in Lidl and Aldi and they have it. Can't attest to the quality as I can't use it, far too sweet unfortunately.

My brother used to have it in sandwiches, sprinkled liberally with sugar :puke:

Ah, that reminds me. Sugar butties when I was a child. With butter of course!

Back to our Full Size RC Narrowboat.

The owner has chosen to dump one carbon fuel in favour of Electricity and their on board batteries have become a Power Wall with Shore Power, Solar Power and built in Generator/ Range Extender. They have effectively turned their boat into a PHEV but without the Regen option that has been built into Tally Ho.The 2 Channel RC control isn't exactly Full AutoPilot but there are plenty of examples of Fully Autonomous Boats out there now (ask the Ukrainian Navy). So, while we are probably only looking at the Chevy Volt of Narrowboats, the comparison with and reasoning for EVs is still there.

I found this guy while researching ASHP in the UK.

Screenshot 2023-01-28 11.46.04 AM.png
Not only has he put a Heat Pump in a Traditional style UK Semi but he has vlogs on Nissan Leafs, Camper Vans and EVs.

I have only just started going through his channel but so far it is looking good. See what you think. cheers.
