The Bridge House in Ambleside, England is indeed a unique and historic building that has stood the test of time. However, the story behind its construction is a matter of debate among historians.

According to one popular legend, the Bridge House was built in the 17th century by a wealthy Ambleside family in order to avoid paying property taxes. The story goes that the family had to pay taxes based on the size of their land, so they decided to build a house on the bridge over the River Rothay to avoid being taxed for the land underneath the house.

Mind you, they use 'pluralization' so the site is suspect in my eyes.

This is a well hidden bridge, you never get a clear view of it from a car from the road.

Definitely a POTD composition, but this is the thread for bridges of all shapes and sizes. The fence at Alnmouth Station is a glorious bonus in the pattern of the image!

Another tunnel I ran through...

On the Kennett and Avon Canal...

Not in the greatest condition, but doesn't carry heavy locomotives and trucks over it any more. Humans and dogs, the odd bike, maybe a horse or two. The iron work is pretty rusty but there is a decent thickness to the woodwork...if pretty soggy and rotten looking...should stay up until it falls down!
