I went on a ride around (most of) the local River Clyde bridges last weekend (See the bike thread: viewtopic.php?&t=61875&p=759634#p759634)

So here are the bridges:

Crossford
IMG_20230617_073706261.jpg
Kirkfield bank - 2 here as the old bridge is still present. 'New' bridge is 1959, local red stone over a concrete arch.

The bridge over the weir at the intake to the Clyde falls hydro power station

Crawford (the southerly point)
IMG_20230617_093010308.jpg
Abington (twice over this one)
IMG_20230617_094058701.jpg
Wandel (again 2 here)
IMG_20230617_090843425.jpg
IMG_20230617_095024111.jpg
Lamington - there is a West Coast Main Line Rail bridge just up from here that was closed for a few weeks in Dec 2018 as the river washed the supports away under the piers!)
IMG_20230617_100218848.jpg
Wolfclyde - the river is as the back, extra arches for when the river is in flood I guess.
IMG_20230617_102452367.jpg
Bonus remains of a railway bridge in the field as well
IMG_20230617_102512716.jpg
The bridge at Boat next to Thankerton - underpinning work onging
IMG_20230617_103844808.jpg
A fail at this one as it is being re-built (so that means I will have to come round again!) I used to ride across here on most rides out, have had to find new routes this year!)

Works site (and the bridge, just) visible in the centre of this pic
IMG_20230617_105558980.jpg
Finally, Hyndford bridge - this is the main route South in/ out of Lanark and is a fine 5 arch stone bridge dating from 1773 still doing sterling service.

Union Chain Bridge recognised as international landmark
A 202-year-old bridge that links England and Scotland has been recognised for its historical significance.

The Union Chain Bridge, which crosses the River Tweed, has been named as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

It joins the likes of the Eiffel Tower, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge.

It comes after a complex restoration was completed earlier this year.

This is the Union Chain Bridge, the finest border crossing between England and Scotland (very lovely but carries more walkers and cyclists than motor vehicles)

Sorry if this has been posted before, came up in conversation earlier today elsewhere and I've just remembered about this thread. Close to disaster really!

An unassuming but colourful railway bridge on the Newcastle-Carlisle Line.

and from the adjacent bridge over the River South Tyne some nice patina on the plaques from 1903 including a mention for one J.A. Bean Engineer and County Surveyor. Bean is not a very common name round Northumberland parts, although Durham lad Rowan Atkinson did adopt it for one of his characters.

Colourful so that delivery vans can see it before they hit it and take their rooves off

All too common down this way...

Pleased to see you use 'rooves' Jim. Everyone says 'roofs' these days.

According to this https://writingexplained.org/roofs-vs-rooves rooves is an an incorrect pluralisation. Roofs has been correct since at least the 18th century.

Mind you, they use 'pluralization' so the site is suspect in my eyes.
