Looking at the intended route and a reference to running across the bridge as part of Mondays activities, I was expecting some shots of one of the most iconic bridges in the country from your Monday activity Jim! Surely you didn't by pass IKB's finest (although the final design was by the largely forgotten WHB and JH (not a lot of people know that!). Crikey you could even have had a night-time excursion to get some atmospheric night-time photo's.

Have you made a pilgrimage to this one, not IKB but Thomas Telford's Finest.

Evening visits to such things add more drama than daytime visits

I have Neil, and the other one just up the strait :)

My Son-in-Law went to Uni in Bangor so I got to enjoy trips across it several times... Paul (Citroenxm) first introduced me to it...

You're right that it's Telford's finest :)

Well its sort of a bridge, it's a gateway through Berwick's Elizabethan walls.

Designed by John Rennie, and also the inspiration for his design for Waterloo Bridge London.

Just posted. Says it is the only one left but little does he know that there is one in Newcastle. Never seen it open but crossed it many a time.

The Whitby one was always open at the most inopportune times. I remember it failing while open and the army came in and fitted a pontoon bridge, which was fun, except for traffic that had to divert through Ruswarp, added about five miles to the journey.

No, he's well wrong... Still a fair number scattered around the country but not all may be in working order...

Network Rail have recently completed a big refurbishment of the Barmouth Bridge in Wales and have retained its opening section...
