Firmware update failure RNEG Peugeot 407sw

Post by JR Hartley »

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help point me to a possible solution to an issue I have with trying to update the firmware on my MYWAY in my 407. I've had a look through the forum and can't see the same problem.

VIN: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I bought a legit CD (ref 9679240380 as mentioned in other posts) to upgrade from version rneg_D_R20ter_R20.07 to R50b (50.03) as my system keeps restarting several times before settling down. Most times, it resets back to, I assume, factory settings as the default language is French.

When I put the CD into the CD player, the update starts and a message states that it needs to reboot...it tries to reboot but then my screen goes black and eventually I get an error message after having to perform the BSI reset procedure 'Software update has failed due to an error 0x3000 Update medium not ok - please check'

Is it the CD that is at fault here? I see that there is a sticky to update via a SD card - is that the way to update rather than direct from the CD or is my head unit on it's way out so it doesn't even get to update anything?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Julian

Hi Julian. It is unlikely to be the CD. You may want to try on another SD Card - a new one (beware using the mapping SD card) to see if it will update, but I suspect that you may have faulty flash memory on the mother board. This usually involves a repair by the Clarion centre, see post with links below:

viewtopic.php?t=60781

If the onboard memory has become faulty then it may be preventing the update.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I haven't tried with a SD card as I thought the CD would work. Would I need to just copy over the files on the CD to the SD card once I've formatted the SD card appropriately?

Julian

Yes, just make sure the new SD card is FAT 32 formatted and contains no other files apart from those on the CD including any hidden Windows system files.

Very late response to this Marc as I've had a few personal issues to resolve. I have, eventually, tried with the SD card approach and that didn't work. I'm now thinking it is the flash memory so am considering getting a replacement. There are a few on the well known bidding site so I just wanted to check if I have to match the model number, the PSA Part number or the CE number? I know what they are as I've got the unit out but not completely removed.

Not sure if this has been asked before.

Many thanks,

Julian

Hi Julian, we can help with official parts, but that requires a membership upgrade as we also have to pay for this service. This will give you the PSA part number or any later replacement part number.

However if you want to try and source one, with the number you have, then look on the back on the label and look for a number that says PSA part number, it should start 96***. This will be the original part, but you will have to have it VIN coded to the vehicle with a Lexia / Diagbox and ensure any vehicle configuration options are also updated.

Thanks for getting back to me Marc & for the advice. I do have a copy of Diagbox both versions 7.57 and 9.68 (on a VM) but I'd probably need a bit of hand holding to code it to my car as I've only used it for diagnostic/error removal purposes. Will see what I can source.

Many thanks,

The issue with second hand units (or new ones for that matter) are that they need to be configured specifically for the vehicle and the options present on the vehicle. A second hand one may be from a different vehicle, so will need the configuration checking.

I should be able to provide some guidance as to what needs setting, but it is a sensitive operation. In the interim, have a read of this general guide to help prevent disasters:

Lexia / PP2000 / Diagbox Warning

Let me know nearer the time you are ready and I'll see if I can assist.

Hi Marc,

I've eventually got round to sourcing a replacement unit after having to sort out a turbo boost issue and have fitted it to the car to make sure it boots up ok. It does and makes the 'bleeping' sound as expected due to it being matched to another car. Did I need to make a note of anything in terms of the set up or can the new unit be matched to my cars VIN without any other things being noted? The VIN is at the top of this thread.

Thanks for your help with this.

Julian

Hi Julian

That will depend entirely on the donor vehicle and the options / equipment which that vehicle had fitted as to what may need configuring on the new unit.

I suggest you first code the VIN in correctly and then see if you have full functionality of things like parking assistance etc. If not, I'll need to know what isn't working, and then I'll likely ask you to take a screenshot of the RNEG ECU settings as they are. I can then do a comparison against what the settings should be so that you can make the necessary configuration changes.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have, eventually, managed to code the VIN. It looks like most things are working but not the parking assistance. I'll take a screenshot of the RNEG ECU settings tomorrow and post it for you to kindly check.

Thanks once again,

Julian

Hi Marc,

An update for you. All the functions seem to be working ok so I have no need to change anything further. Many thanks once again for all your help.
