Keyless entry

Post by Ds5 airdream »

I have only just bought the DS5 airdream and all the locks work properly with the remote control but the keyless entry only works on the passenger side the drivers door or the passenger door on that side doe's not work? Could that be a fuse or something or both handles fault, any advice please

That sounds contradictory - please can you clarify what you mean:
the keyless entry only works on the passenger side the drivers door or the passenger door on that side doe's not work?

Ok, so the fact that everything works with the remote fobs indicates that the central locking itself works fine.

The issue is likely to be with the hands free door control units (shown below) on those affected doors or a wiring issue:
ds5 hf door.PNG

Having taken a look a the circuit diagram, I can tell you that both these units share a common earth point on the car:

As you can see below, the earths MC82 A and D are connected:

8253 : rear RH exterior opening control module for the hands-free starting access
8251 : front RH exterior opening control module for the hands-free starting access
ds5 hf door earth.PNG

.. and this is where those earths are linked to point MC55B on the vehicle body:

I have a DS (not Citroen) DS5 2015 and what seems to be the same issue. Keyless was working fine on all doors and boot but has stopped in the last couple of days on the drivers door and rear door directly behind - passenger side doors both still work fine as does boot. Both key fobs operate locking/unlocking fine. Did the original poster find that it was an earth issue? How exactly did they go about locating, accessing and fixing the break to earth? Is wiring under the carpet or in the frame??

I checked with a well recommended, local garage that specialises in French cars and they said I would have to use a main dealer to look into the issue. I have it booked in to the nearest Citroen dealer who seemed somewhat reluctant to even look - I think because it's DS rather than Citroen - although DS themselves told me they are my local main dealer, based on my VIN. What is the likelihood that they will be able to find and fix the issue? - am I just wasting money getting them to diagnose? Would I be better getting a car electrical specialist looking at the issue? Or do I just accept that my keyless entry is no more and I get used to using the fob?!

Don't panic - they are the same group, it's just the later DS badged vehicles come under DS Automobiles and the earlier Citroen badged DS5s come under Citroen. It just means the parts database for later DS badged DS5s may not have all the later parts , so depends if the dealership subscribe to the DS Automobiles parts database or not.

As you've said that both the driver and rear driver side doors are affected, then it sounds to me without testing, that there is an issue with the wiring that passes through the A pillar to the front door, which then passes through to the rear door. As this is a weak point with the Driver's door being opened and closed the most, it is where breaks in the wiring start to happen over time.

If it was me, I would remove the protective tube in the front door aperture, and check for obvious breaks or shorts here first of all.

It would be odd for both the driver and read driver doors to go together if it was the sensor in the door handles themselves.

Other possibilities are of course the door handle sensors or the hands free unit itself. A diagnostic will help determine if there's an open or short circuit or whether there's another issue, but will cost a diagnostic to determine. But check the obvious and no cost option that I've suggested first.

Had an Alfa Giulietta prior to this and was always a broken wire problem with electrical faults - never the part itself

That was interesting - opened the driver door wide to look at how easy it would be to take the protective tube off, closed the door again and both handles now working perfectly!! Guess that confirms broken wire in the vicinity of the drivers door?

Indeed, that looks to be the issue and a lot cheaper to fix!

What software update?

If you’re talking about touchscreen / headunit software, then these have no impact on the locking or hands free system.

I have DS4 from 06.2022 and I've received recent updates - also the one with Games and another after that and I haven't noticed any problems with keyless.
I'm opening / closing my car at least 10 times a day.
One of the older updates fixed in my case opening the rear hatch remotely from the keyfob - it wasn't working earlier, the rear hatch opened but never fully, now it work's perfectly.

As far as I remember remote (from the keyfob) opening of the windows never work - at the beginning and even now but closing the windows works OK.
My brother has Peugeout 308 from 08.2022 which is almost the same car but with different badge and it works very well - opening and closing the windows from keyfob.
