I enjoy Rick Beato's youtube channel, and amongst his various top 20 rundowns, of intros, guitar solos, etc he has a little section of over 100 videos of selected songs where he explores "What makes a Song Great". Many familiar classics get the treatment.

I could have picked out my own favourites from Steely Dan or Joni Mitchell but I have let the random hand do its work and it has has picked out episode 96. New one to me, not being a particular follower of the Who, but Rick picks it out as a classic, and its interesting appreciating the craft in the song through his video.

The reason I was thinking about 'classic' songs that everyone should know, is because my 13 year old son is a massive American rap/gangsta fan, yet I heard him and his online friends singing this at the top of their voices. I've never played it to him, I asked him how does he know it, reply was, it's a classic dad....
