Beginning to generate a bit of affection for Selkirk, and we could so we did....had a day out there today. Via Kelso and bagged a portion of stovies for lunch at the charge point.

So whats the benefit of doing a bit of reading around, watching a few videos, listening to a few songs before you go to a place. You can have interesting conversations with the people you meet when you visit. Straight off the car park is a very interesting museum with a very friendly and knowledgeable lady and we enjoyed a very nice chat.

Not that I am aware of Gibbo. I was Engineering Services Manager for BT Mobile from 1983 to 1990, the period during which we carried out a full radio coverage survey of the UK A, B and Motorway road network for the Cellnet and Radiopaging planning departments to implement the advanced paging and cellular telephone system as we know it. Prior to that the only mobile telephones were on the analogue System 4 network which he may have been involved in but I think I would have been aware given my position and interest in F1.

If Jackie didn't personally erect a mast in Selkirkshire his dayish on the thread has passed. Ernie Wise might get a mention in the pioneering days of Mobile phones, but he will have to wait until Middlesex or Berkshire crops up!

Selkirk has an association with the origins of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

The breed is named after a fictional character in Sir Walter Scott's novel, Guy Mannering. This character, Dandie Dinmont, is thought to be partly based on James Davidson, who is credited as the originator of the modern breed. Davidson's dogs descended from earlier terrier-owning families, including the Allans of Holystone, Northumberland.

... at the Fleece Hotel at Selkirk, Scottish Borders on 17 November 1875, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club (DDTC) was formed,[17] becoming the third oldest breed club for dogs in the world.

Down at the Haining one of the founding fathers of the breed "Old Ginger" has his own monument.

Antrim's day is going to spill over into "2 May 2022", and this first day cover of the "Landscape Pictoral Issue Stamps" from the General Post Office is dated "2 May 1966" on the postmark. Quite remarkable!.
